60csx new purch for a noob.. need I buy Nav. software

Purchased the unit strictly for Pine Barren use or any other state park with unmarked streets. Do I need to purchase Nav software to make it work. I plan to use the gps to make my own track or leach from others.

Sorry if this is a beaten quest.... but maybe I just didn't do the obvious enough....

The 60CSx does not come with any preloaded maps only a baemap that shows major streets and highways.
You will need to get City Navigator North America NT (version 2010.2 is the most current) for street use or one of the U.S. Topo maps (24K is most current).

More info: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...pID=310#mapTab

Thank you for immed response. So even though I don't need direction with streets, I still need to purchase street Navi to view paths in the park... Can't I zoom into just park area...

sorry if so redundant...

The only thing on it without any maps are major interstates, large cities and landmarks. You can make tracks without maps, but you'll only be navigating via lat/lon.

The tracks & waypoints you record or get from others will be displayed on the map page. You will be able to zoom in and out and change the map orientation (North at top or direction of travel at top). You can also navigate a track though results very.

The built in base map will show good Interstate detail including exits and services at the exits. And in my experience state highways with out the services.

You can buy old copies of Garmins MapSource Roads & Recreation fairly cheap. Not auto routing not current but surprisingly detailed.

Don't forget a 1-2Gb micro SD card to load the maps onto.

Thank you for your response.

That is the quest I really wanted to ask. I have a dedicated gps for roads (tom tom) and really do not need street, roads, etc. but navigation through wilderness, ( like leaving bread crumbs. just want to know where I left the crumbs and possibly return to them in future... or even share with others.

Don't know why software does not come pre-installed as some gps. paid enough for the thing. And they know that most of us will probably install it on the darn thing.

Limit is 2025 map segments regardless of card size. Did you exceed that? Also I think you have to have the latest firmware in the unit (4.00?) to use a 4 gig card.

Thank you Sir for this. I still need to familiarize myself with this. Site seems very useful though. I'll get back to you and post my findings.
