short ride in my backyard.

well as some of you may know, we had a little bit of rain here last weekend.

today after i got my chainsaw ticket, i decided to go exploring as i had seen only a small bit of what was back there.

as i had only seen a small bit of what was there, i decided to check out some of the other trails.

i went over without taking any photos as i needed fuel pretty badly. on the return trip though i took a few photos and a small section of video.

here goes. all these pictures were taken within 10kms of my backyard.

coming in off old ormeau road, down the first hill, was the creek crossing where there was a fourby washed away.

heres the creek now, when the fourby was washed away, the water was just under the shadow line on the far bank now its only a foot deep.

some sections of the track.

the rain from last weekend screwed up the tracks a fair bit as you'll see in a fair few of the pics.

i like these hills. they are quite decently steep, and theres shale and rocks all over them, they are mostly all rutted, but are still awesome fun to go up and down.

some more rutting of the tracks. good place to practice balance haha.

more hill climbs

muddy sections that the fourbies seem to love.

some nice puddles.

more rutted hills

.

from this section of track for the next say kilometer roughly, im not gonna lie when i say it took everything i learnt at tksmith's offroad rider course just to stay upright. the pictures dont do it justice. my bash plate took a hell of a beating. awesome product the B n B bash plate it is. some of the rocks were bigger then my head and they were all loose so trying to skip down the hill when the rocks are rolling out from under the wheels was bloody hard.

the view looking out over the quarry (good place for a rock quarry dont you reckon) this is looking towards beenleigh.

the final leg of the tracks.

the view that i had to go home to.

well i just thought i'd put this out there. maybe someone else can continue this thread along with their own backyard.
youtube vid to come once its uploaded

Once is enough

Of the twin track in that area you got the worst bit at the top overlooking Peachy Rd under the low tension power lines.

If you made it down upright good onya.
If you attempted up then no wonder you're not up for a ride in the morning.

There is a nice bit of single track that runs around the side of the hill past some disused concrete structures. There are some potentially deep water hazards that can be a problem after rain but it allows you to avoid this section.

yeh i made it down without coming off.

made it halfway up without coming off and then ran out of momentum and stopped. turning around was a pain in the ass but managed it. thanks TKSMITH and his adventure riding course. the bailout worked in the worst terrain i ridden haha.

mate, wanna show me some of the tracks you were talking about last year?
i found one mud hole that was prob a bit deep for comfort. i did it on the edge of the hole easily, went through it slightly further in, and all of a sudden, it dropped off.

considering my airbox door is gaffa taped onto it cause i lost all but one of the bolts when i did a filter oil.

there was no water in the airbox though so was all good. and nothing in the oil like last time. i forgot to get a pic of the mudhole i fell into, but the hole is there, so will get a pic next time im up there.

I'm OK with showing you those tracks it's just finding a time and palce to hook up. My current exploration zone is Laidley Gatton way and I'm slabbing it to Rosewood to give me more time on target so I tend to bypass the volcano where you live.

Have you tried up Cedar Creek Rd and Rowe Lane? Turn right at the abandoned cars with bullet holes and into the jungle up the hill past the springs onto the top track?
http://www.offroadexplorer.com/Forum...t=864&start=10

If you talk with the lady at the house with the abandoned car out front she might show you the back way up past her gate. RM370 found some tracks up there that run back out to Shaws Pocket and others that bypass the nature reserve and come out on Upper Ormeau Rd.
Some guys I talked to pushed through a bypass around one of the gates (pictured in the report) These tracks will take you back to the Boral Quarry and you seem to know your way from there pretty well.

I'm heading out to Gatton in the morning are you up for it?

The Gold Coast is famous for it's lack of dirt bike riding oportunities.

Good onya for having a go Ross.
I'm riding back to Coomera from the RTCB bash on the 21st.
It would be a chance to get up the hill with you if you haven't discovered it all on your own by then.
