Actually as a matter of factely we will be going right thru Asheville and that maybe our first stop, so we may take you up on that. That will be a marathon day but its all on slab so it should be doable. have to see what the wind blows in.

2008 - TAT West Recap

Last year, the TAT Gruppe planned to attack the Western Section of the TAT. UT, NV and OR.

As all great adventures begin, food was the topic of our first evening.

The Road Trip to Monticello from Broken Arrow

Started the ride at Monticello and headed West. We soon found that we started a little early and hit snow and hell the first day.

La Salle Range

After a couple hours trying to bust the pass, we had to turn back and find a route to Moab.

Joe "your kidding me, we going there"

And the adventured continues. Need help guys with a few pics. Seem to have misplaced some.

The ride continued as hoped for the first couple days. Grinding and Riding.

Like Joe always added "Vance, we working the piss out of the old bikes".

Anthony showing off the FBI Stealth RT1

Me ole Mountain Bike, soaking up a little sun.

To read the whole story, check out the 2008 - Vintage TAT West ride in my signature. The next few days dished out some Whooop Ass on the boys.

Anthony did a double full on his bike in the sand. We hit snow on the last range in Utah, and later I busted my ass and got mailed home. Check out the story, it is a hell of a ride for sure.

Ass Whoooopen #1, Yes I am pissed , yes the deputy had a gun and I had a knife , and Yes, for the first time in my life had to leave my bike behind. Remember, he had a gun, and I'll be damned, he was very convincing with it.

The rest of this recap will require support from the others, due to a little issue, I did not get any more pictures, don't care to relive it, so I will break here and allow the others to fill in the blanks.

Will move ahead to the 2009 - Vintage Ride in a day or so. Take over dudes.

Gruppe Tat Website is now live

Well - after too many hours of fighting new software, The Vintage Enduro Adventure Riders - AKA - GruppeTAT - is online once again with our new cutting edge website. There will be more content posted as we get closer to Kickstands Up, but for now you can get a bit of our history without reading the complete threads.

We will be posting GPS tracking logs from Dman's SPOT on our GPS map. (It is blank for the moment, but I will have him upload a few checks to give you an idea of what it is like.

You will need to sign up to view most of the content, and there is a separate signup for the mailing list if you want to get Vinnie's haphazard SPOT updates directly to your inbox! Right at the bottom right of most pages.

We also have a facebook page if anyone is socially inclined.

Please let me know if you find any problems with the website as I am still picking the bugs out from it's teeth . . .

So the TAT West was a bit of a train wreck between snow, wrecks and closed roads it will be attacked in 2010 from Battle Mountian, Nev to the end.

The 2009 Eastern Section has begun with working to get the West Coast bikes to the East Coast. Gary and Mark shuttled to Idaho, and Dman to Salida and I will get them from Salida to Kitty Hawk.

As always, when ever in Colorado, can not miss a bit of a ride. Lefty and Steve from BigDogAdventure connections decided to ride out with me and see some of my favorite places as a payback for the BigDog & Lefty Swinging Bridges ride in may.

BigDog showing water crossing techniques in Missouri in May.

Lefty showing a different technique

BigDog had to work, but Lefty and Steve enjoying the trip in Colorado

The WR250R on its maidian voyage with Vinnie, did very well.

On top of he the world.

Now with the Colorado Tune Up Ride over and The Eastern Section ahead. The Chase Truck and Trailer loaded for Broken Arrow, to be prepared for the final push to Kitty Hawk on October 1st.

2009 Chase Truck headed East from Salida.

So, with a few more repairs, parts, tools, bags, to load the Chase Truck will leave BA on September 30th for Kitty Hawk. The TAT Gruppe will be arriving October 2nd and 3rd. Kickstands up a 08:00 on October 4th to work our way to Jellico, TN, intercept the TAT and head West once again.

I understand we are taking the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tail of the Dragon on the way to Jellico. I hope we don't hold up any traffic with the strokers. Should be interesting for sure.

2009 - TAT Eastern Section and Beyond

The plan:
Depart: Kitty Hawk, NC on 04-Oct-09
Arrive: Broken Arrow, OK when ever
Ride:
1. Truely Trans America - Atlantic to Pacific
2. Blue Ridge Parkway
3. Tail of the Dragon
4. TAT - TN, MS, AR

Goal: Have a hell of a good ride on something old with two wheels. I know, I know, why the chase truck? Because the bikes are old as hell, makes traveling a little more secure with parts that we just can't get at any cycle shop, and we can so why not. At some point it just don't matter, a ride is a ride.

Hey Vance, Glad to see you're finally going to be able to put the rear tire of the smoker in the Atlantic. Guess I kinda been out of touch. I knew you were planning on doing this but didn't know you had set a date.

I totally understand about the chase truck. You are largely responsible for us doing that.

I will definitely be watching your Ride report.

If I get a chance, I will stop by and see you before you leave.

Vintage TAT

Hi guys,
Good luck on your Eastern Adventure.
I have restored a number of vintage bikes so I have a soft spot for what you are doing. As I was riding the TAT this summer, I had many thoughts of doing it on a vintage dirt bike. Probably a Husky or Penton, but still vintage. Something like a 6 Days of the West would be cool.
If anyone needs anything here in Atlanta, feel free to PM me.
Cheers,
Doug

Starting the bike prep....

I opened up the Stealth 1971 Yamaha RT1B to see if the Western TAT had been mean to her.

It looks like they got along just fine.

Let's do a little cleaning.

I had an idea that would help keep the kick starter from becoming a geocache...

I drilled and taped the kick shaft for a 6mm bolt.

And, of course, added the safety wire.

We'll fit the head tomorrow.

For those of you new to following GruppeTAT. you will understand that the member who is safety wiring his kickstart lever does not surprise the rest of us. The bike that little gem is going on is this one. . .

Slightly modified . . .
