520 sx

I have basically stolen an '02 520 (almost no $). Unfortunately its an SX. Any of you maniacs got some cool pics or suggestions how to make this thing "dual sporty"? Or someone done one already?

Upgrade the 4 speed tranny to a 6 speed from an EXC. I had an '03 525 SX a few years ago. Very quick and pretty good as a trail/enduro machine.

good start I'm sure! how will it do on the road?? have seen a few people say that the RFS doesn't like steady revs. I wont be doing long freeway trips or anything but mostly busting some backwoods, southern Indiana Roads or riding back and forth to the firehouse

It will do just fine for what you're describing. I had an '02 250 that I did the factory 350 SXS bore kit on. I dualsported the hell out of it and had zero problems.

If you're going to run at extended revs get your jetting spot-on, keep the air filter clean, and keep the oil changed. (I wish they held more.) Those RFS motors will run forever. Think of them as XRs with radiators. I think they're the best motors KTM ever made.

Yeah, it's all about lb/feet, alright. As long as you don't run the Interstate across your state the bike will be fine. My 350 version did many miles of extended 2-lane running at 55-60 mph with no ill effects.

But keep that oil changed!

The crank is bad for spreading on the early SXs, not the best design compounded by high revs. It can be addressed in a few ways, if the hours are up there, 200+ I'd check the crank for run out. You can avoid an expensive repair with a little preventive maint.
