Advice - Buying a Bike in AZ

Looking for some advice or suggestions. I'll be working in Tucson until April, and it seems a shame not to have a bike to ride so I'm looking at buying one locally and either riding it back to Canada when I'm done or reselling it.

What I need is insight into how best to register and insure the bike on a Canadian license and with a hotel as my local address. If anyone has done something similar I'd appreciate the advice. I bought a bike in LA last year and imported it very easily, but I didn't need to register it in California or ride it there, so it was less complicated.

AZ is one of the easiest places to register a bike. A few months ago I helped a couple purchase and register a bike here. Used my home address and their international license to get everything titled, registered and insured.

Maybe get one of the Tucson inmates to lend you their addy. Good luck.

Thanks cyberdos. I can probably use a colleague's address. Just didn't want to get to the dmv and be told I was out of luck.

Find a third party vehicle license place. One of your tucson colleagues will know of one. Much more helpful than the state run place.

Yes. We did it at a 3rd party MVD because it was a Sunday!
Super easy.

Looks like a great deal, but it's not for me thanks. The prices on HDs are so much lower in the US that I'm looking at a heritage or a road king. Prices in AZ are very appealing for a Canuck :)

April would be a great ride back up the Pacific Coast Highway, if you live in Western Canada. Not sure how much import tax you would have to pay on a HD though. May even meet a few locals to make the run with you.

I've done the PCH this year. Big Sur was awesome, LA - San Luis Obispo is not a ride I'd bother repeating...

PCH into Oregon and Washington in April? Bring the heated gear :)

Sure, but I was talking about the 1 / 101 as was clear from the previous posters comments. I rode from Newport Beach to Carmel in a day this August, and the stretch from San Luis Obispo to Carmel was one of my favourite rides this year. The stretch from LA to San Luis Opisbo wasn't. We were meeting friends in Santa Barbara which limited route options to the 101. That bit of it is fairly boring.

In summary, NorCal rocks, SoCal sucks . Did you have any advice on buying a bike in Arizona?

thanks again for the advice guys. Ended up picking up a BMW Rockster at a very good price; it's been very well kept and seems ideally to fit the bill for the mix of short and longer distance riding I'll be doing.

Send me a pm when you get in town and I'll show you a 3rd party that's easy to work with.
