Thumb 2015 Cal24 Announcement (June 12th - 14th, 2015)

From Tom....

Quote:
We are proud to announce that the 2015 Cal 24 Rally will be held on June 12th - 14th, 2015. It will start and finish near Roseville, CA. Entry is open to everyone with a motorcycle capable of making the trip, a great attitude and interest in taking part of one of motorcycling’s great adventures. New rally riders are welcome, and we go out of our way to make it a fun and enjoyable experience. This year's event will include both a full 24 hour rally, as well as a 12 hour version. They will both start at the same time (Saturday Morning), with the 12 simply ending earlier. The base route for the 24-hr event will be slightly over 1,000 miles. There will be opportunities to add to that mileage with a wide range of bonus opportunities.

The entry fee for a single rider entry in the Cal 24 is $200. Cost for a Couple is $250. (12 hr event is $150 single / $200 couple). Minimum donation for a single is $50 and $100 for a couple. For this, riders get the Rally, a long sleeve riding shirt, a pre-rally BBQ, awards banquet, awards, and door prizes.

President
Cal24
More information from Tom this afternoon:

Quote:
The info and application are up on the cal24.com website. As many know I have been dealt a serious health issue which will severely limit my ability to put on the rally. Thanks to my good friends Bob Mutchler, Jerry White, Mark Crane and others, the rally will still go on.

I've had many, many people ask if there is any thing they can do. I understand how people feel about it. You would like to do something, but are lost as to what you can do. Well here is something my motorcycle friends CAN do, sign up for the Cal24! Nothing would me happier than knowing that the rally will continue, with or without me. If you cannot ride, contact Bob Mutchler and make a donation to Polio Plus.

All details about the event (this year and past years) can be found at the Cal24 link in my signature.

Is this an IBA sanctioned or recognized event? A lot of the links in the webpage go to IBA but it's not clear if this is part of or separate from IBA... Any push for witness sheets for those looking to get their IBA number?

I'm on the fence about signing up but leaning towards it.

Yes, Tom sends a list of qualifying finishers to Kneebone. If you want to get your IBA Saddlesore certificate, you only need to send in the cert fee to the IBA; no additional paperwork is required.

However, to qualify for the cert you need to do 1000+ miles within a 24 hr period. The rally typically has penalty time, where you can come in a bit late, be docked penalty points, but still be counted as a finisher for the Cal24. If you do so, you wouldn't be able to claim the Saddlesore, as finishing in greater than 24 hrs from the start wouldn't definitively show you to have completed 1000 miles by then (without additional receipts or paperwork).

20+ riders so far, with perhaps a few more stragglers on the way. Sad that Tom won't be with us, but the rest of the team is excited to put on an event that he would have been proud of.

What a great time! Rode a hair over 1200 miles in 24 hours. Went some places I've never been before. Met some new friends. Got some good raffle prizes. Have some stories to tell. Gonna be there next year.

Thanks to the Cal24 crew for putting together an awesome rally.

Hi Reama!

Here's the SPOT track of the route I rode:
