Shorted Kill switch?
As your location is middle TN, try giving Bob Ginder at B&J racing a call I used to wrestle a TL250 around a few trials sections till I got tired of picking it up. Got a Bultaco now, whole lot less bike to crawl out from under.

I just went through a problem with no spark on my 76 TL 250. The coil was shot. Don't bother looking for a TL coil you won't find one. I used a coil off of a 75 XL 250. Different mount bracket but it did bolt right up and works like new. When my coil was going bad I could start the bike and drive it a short distance and it would die. Wait till the coil cooled and it would start again until finally it died all together.

I'm still kikkin my self in the butt for giving away a perfectly good running 250 with lights to a friend for his deer lease a few years back . The only problum I ever had was kick starters wearing out . SEYA

The only thing that broke in many years of operations. Fortunately they are common to other models and were available at the local wreckers.
