Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the insurance BS again. It was a total nightmare when I got hit on the 990. That time I actually had a ton of medical bills that I needed covered. It was super fun trying to get my health taken care of after months of treatment...

Ummmmmm...... Is there anything else you need to tell me?

Where the front gas tank mounts broken/stripped before this accident?

I thought you'd already seen this picture. It's floating around somewhere. I thought in the Wolfpack thread...

No stripped tank mounts when it left my hands. I did all the oil changes, so I'd know..

Garage Porn Low Ball Targets

This is mostly for GEEK, but then I thought the rest of you would be interested too.

November and December are when sellers take low ball offers, and not just for motorcycles. Year after year, I score the largest discounts for house buyers during this time of year.

Daydreaming, I decided to look up large garages (5+ spaces) with attached houses. FIVE houses qualified as low ball targets in Boulder County. The owners of these houses likely have tons of equity (low LTV) and the houses have been on the market for a long time. These sellers can afford to take a low-ball if they want.

The one on Mitchell has an 8 car garage! The one in Allenspark has been on the market for 1300+ days.

Enjoy (linky)

I might go out this week and look at these for myself. If any of you are interested in tagging along, drop me a msg.

Dude.. Just saw this. Glad to hear you're okay.

Word of advice - don't wait for insurance to tell you if it's a total loss, you tell them. Make it clear you're not accepting a "repaired" vehicle after that kind of damage and that it'll end in court if they even try it. If they give you shit, let them know it's hard you for you to keep talking on the phone with how sore your neck is getting.

If an insurance company is being nice, it means you're in the process of getting screwed.

there's always Cochetopa....isn't that how you made it across at the end of our Nov '09 trip?

I hope we have a few days of warm-ish weather so the pavement is clear....or I'm not going near the northern route back.

Rob, I was just giving you crap about the gas tank mounts. I think a ham fisted mechanic at the selling dealer did this. I'll have to reweld one nut & clean up the threads on the other (probably need to braze in the threads & retap).

I just tore the bike down to put on heated grips. I have a huge pile of fasteners in a bowl, I've undone a half a dozen hoses, a half dozen electrical connecters, and I'm still 8 screws away from getting the air filter out. I think I'll avoid riding in dust as much as possible.

Funny thing is, I rode that bike back to his place after the accident (he got to ride in the "bus") and it was like nothing had ever happened. Rode like a champ and never missed a beat.

Filter skins? Don't you have to get at the filter to remove it? Or can you rig a string to pull the skin out of the way without disassembling half the bike.

Jeff: The Uni-filter replaces the snorkel.

You pull the glove box and you can reach it. a few phillips screws and a few 8mms.
I have one on mine.. there are a few times I've removed the skin and it looked like it was dipped in powder sugar - but my (expensive) stock filter looks virgin. I did change my stock filter just due to age once

If you are really worried about dust (say you lived somewhere really dusty) you can remove (cut out?) the bottom of the glove box (losing your glovebox capacity). But then you can just open the lid, pull the skin off and put a new one on - no tools required (but probably lots of cursing due to lack of 10" digital dexterity )

Pyndon made a "quick release" pre filter .. that required destroying the glove box but had easy access - you can find it in his thread in OC

Here's the uni pre filter (right of stock). It has a "special base" attached specifically so it bolts up in snorkel's place.
