I know we have this bitch fest regularly... but seriously? $154.25 for license plate renewal on my dirtbike? (the 500).

The new government way: "We are going to raise rates for the next 3 years to get us over this hiccup.. everyone can handle it for only 3 years right?"

3 years later: "Yeah.. we changed our mind and we're keeping the higher rates. No, you have no say in the matter".

all in black...that was me.

I got about half way to Amarillo before the wind really picked up....and most of the way the underpasses were no big deal. I'd keep my eyes peeled for icy patches and was good....for a while.
I hit one that had a 3" lip of ice that caught my attention pretty good

The closer I got to Amarillo - maybe the last 30 miles....each underpass was full width ice a couple inches thick. After hitting a couple at speed and not enjoying the next few milliseconds much....I was pulling to the right of the rumble strip, slowing down and paddlefooting across.
They got way worse the further north I went.

When I got into Amarillo traffic it turned into a big deal....underpasses were every few seconds and traffic was right on me. I pulled off at McD's and got a cup of coffee and checked the surroundings. The last half hour sucked pretty bad, I was ready to call it a day here.

Big ice and snow all around, lots of ice and slop made the side streets worse than the freeway. Cloud cover rolling in... it all added up to seeing what was available to drive back in. No box vans ready at the place I checked, and the lot's parking lot was pretty deep in snow....not knowing what to expect down the road, but it wasn't promising - I rented a car and parked the bike, will go back down for the bike with a borrowed trailer.

Hindsight is 20-20.... just a few miles west of Amarillo it was still windy, but the roads were dry and riding would not have been bad at all. Single digit cold in the wind, but even with the gear turned on low it was keeping me warm enough.
If I could have seen beyond Amarillo and known...I'd have kept riding.

Yes there's that. Representative Rice and Governor Ritter are the ones to thank for that. Well, them and those that voted for them that is. Looks like it's gonna get much worse.

Rant castrated to save face...

I drove the Notom Road to the Burr Trail last month on my way to Kalifornia (in my peekup, bike in the truck). I started as the sun was setting, real pretty; I love the Utah scenery. However, when it got dark (AND ICY), I was wondering WTF was I doing? Doing the Notom Road (which is pretty flat) on ice (20%) and the 200' iced over creek crossing upped the blood pressure just a bit. Doing the Burr Trail switch backs on ice was............................well, it sucked.

My take-away: I have another adventure that I lived through. He has nothing.

Sorry to hear that Blake but sounds like a good move. Safe travels in the rental car.

Speaking of which.. I wish my hindsight was more 20-15 or 20-10... apparently I don't see my past mistakes well enough at 20-20.
