VStrom Handlebars?

Still a bit new to this Adv game, as I traded my chrome for plastic recently. Looking to get a new set of handlebars for my 03 DL1000. Looking for something with a bit more pullback than stock, even though I have some risers. (I'm also used to a fatter grip.)

So if anyone has any suggestions, or places to look, I'm all ears and would be appreciative. Thanks in advance...

Here's the definitive V-Strom handlebar thread: Linky... Four years and still going! After an exhaustive search, I ended up going with ProTaper Contour bars in the Raptor bend. Here's a thread with the install info: Linky.

I have 2" ROX risers and Pro-Taper 'Pastrana FMX' bars on my '04 DL-650. This provides a good bit higher and closer grip location which is very comfortable. This is about as far as you can go, because the electrical harnesses to the bars are just barely long enough. Clutch cable is fine. I don't know about the front brake, because my front brake lines were replaced with Galfer braided stainless lines, which fit nicely.

The Pro-Taper Pastrana bars have about the same rise and pullback as the ATV High bars, but are about 20mm narrower.

As far as fatter grips, "Grip Puppies" or the equivalent product sold by Adventure Moto Stuff should fit your needs. I used the AMotoStuff units for a while, then added grip heaters and went with a replacement grip, omitting the sleeve that fit over the grips in favor of better heat transfer from the heated grips.

I run a Tag Metal X5 CR Double Hi. Great bend, perfect height.

Thanks for the tips so far....I'm 6'2", and tend to like the more upright riding position, so this gives me some places to start looking.

I put a set of stock KLR bars on mine and love it. I am 6'3 with some long arms.

Funny however I put some moose bars on my KLR. You need to sit on a few with different configurations and see what you like. Comfort on a bike is more subjective then oil in the motor.

I used the stock bar, the Rocky Mtn ATV/MC $20 bar risers, and rolled the bar back in the clamp. I did not use all of the riser inserts, and it's just right for me, (5'9", some gravel & dirt roads, lots of standing up, no single track)

What feels natural for me is to rotate my arms down and back a few degrees, which puts my hands about 1" lower and about 2" more pullback than stock. I've never seen mention of lower bars on a Strom - has anyone tried this? I have a 650 with stock seat and wonder if I'd get the same effect from a taller saddle ...

XR650L Bars

I prefer the XRL bars on my DL1K . . . which are lower . . . but similar pull back:

I wanted some straighter bars with less bend in my wrist.
I went with the Fly Aerotaper GP high and 30 mm risers from Moose Racing.
added a set of Acerbis touring handguards while I was at it.
got it all from amotostuff.com

Here's a picture or two after install
