Moab and Ouray 2up on a 950SE

Well, we’re finally trying to get RR together for our July 09 trip.
My wife and I had 2 weeks off so we decided to throw the bike in the back of the truck and make the 29hr drive across to Moab Utah, and Ouray Colorado.
We ride an 07 950 SE, with a custom seat made soft so we can ride 2up…..I’m driving of course.
We spent a week at Red Cliffs Lodge ( http://www.redcliffslodge.com ) just 14min east Moab on the Colorado river, an incredible location with views of red rock cliffs for miles. Although not the most convenient location from town, it was well worth being out in the middle of the beauty. Our second week was spent in Ouray at a motel called the Hot Springs Inn ( http://www.hotspringsinn.com ), very nice and clean, highly recommend it, and the staff at the desk were great.

WOW!

I watched the part 6 video.... WOW! I love the commentary "hold on!"

You're either totally crazy, have massive cojones, or both.

I'd have a hard enough time 1-up, let alone 2-up. Great that you could enjoy that with your wife.

thanks for sharing.

Cool2 Hello

Hey,
We saw you guys at the top of Blackbear pass; we were the guys on 2-strokes.
Did you really ride 2-up all the way up Blackbear? Did you get your rear brake working?
We really enjoyed talking to you all.

Sweet! I've spent a bunch of time on bicycles and dirt bikes in Moab and there's just nothing else like it. My Dad's side of the family is all from Gunnison, CO so I've also spent a bunch of time up there and over to Silverton, Durango, and Ouray as well = gorgeous and the other end of the spectrum from the desert.

Thanks for the films!

Doug

Thanks for all the great comments everybody, but the credit must go to my wife for hangin on, i rarely get kidney punches for the things i put her through

Xdbx, I believe i met you at the rockhound rally, i was on my 450 with my team, you and Kevin rode up on us, or rather walked up on us as we were trying to get our bikes over the 100 or so trees that were dropped by the tornado....was nice meeting you. How's your buddy? Did he recover ok?

Jimmex, we've talked about you guys a few times in telling our tales, was great meeting you and Sedgric (sp?). Yeah, we did manage to do Black Bear, unfortunately just before the step rocks and the one way, on the way down to Telluride, the rear break went soft, contemplated trying it with the front only but my better judgement told me NO, so we went back up and that's when we saw you guys at the top.
I've got that all on video as well, just loaded it on my hardrive, i'll get that posted early on in the week, gorgeous views.
Hope all is well and you enjoyed your vacation too

Congratulations...it appears you made it around without mishap. Three of us from Wisconsin did the WRT on September 14. Two guys on Dakars and I had an R1200GS. We did okay but when I dropped down off Hardscrabble I chose the wrong line and hit a rock so hard my handlebars went to my knees. I jerked them up, got to the bottom , stopped and shook like a leaf. On close inspection, I dented my front rim oh so slightly. Luckly it still held air. Your report is one of the best I've seen.
