Question North Rim of Black Canyon

I'm headed to Gunnison, Labor Day weekend. I'm going to be riding 2 up on a RT with an inexperienced passenger & was thinking of taking Hwy 92 from Hwy 50 to Crawford. What's the road surface paved, pack gravel or loose gravel? . Are the views worth while?

Paved w/ great surface, lots of elevation and scenery changes. One of the best. Deer in the usual hours. From Gunnison, I would also recommend going over to Lake City and maybe on to Creede for lunch, and then double back. For an easy RT ride, this is also great. Have fun.

I took a trip in July. . . Denver - Alamosa - South Fork - Creede - Lake City - Gunnison - Ouray - Durango - Cortez - Telluride - back to Gunnison - Independence Pass - Glenwood & home. Can you say "GREAT TRIP" This trip is south to Pueblo on Fri night. Then Hwy 50 to Montrose on Sat and then home on Sunday. Hopefully before everyone else heads out of the mountains.

Thats a great ride but notorious for some patches of gravel on the corners. Beware and enjoy.

Off the north end of 92 at Orchard City was great road I used to ride 20 years ago. 65 went over the Grand Mesa and dumped you back on 6 at DeBeque - a little ways east of Grand Junction. I used to ride it on my XT550.

What's that road like now?

ADDED....for others with gravel aspirations, Land's End Road was a great ride on the old XT550 and it intersected with 65 on top of the Grand Mesa. It comes off 50. Awesome views.

141 was a great paved road that came off of 50 not far from where Land's End met 50. It headed off west into the Uncompahgre.

Joe Cocker has a restaurant in Crawford and they like bikers.

It's a great ride. Nice road and great views. Sadly Joe Cocker's (actually his wife's) restaraunt is closed.

Hard packed gravel. Easy ride even for NoComputerDave on his VFR.

Highway 92 - Black Canyon of the Gunnison

I was there a week or so ago - corners were clean, but Bambi was out grazing along the road at 4:00 pm. Keep your eyes open!

Great, great ride - fantastic views of the Black Canyon and a really fun road. It was a little stormy on the day I was there.
