990 Adventure won't start
On sunday I changed the oil in my 2008 990 Adventure. Took it for a test ride and it ran great. This morning after 5 repeated attempts it would not start. Plenty of cranking - no fire. It has always started first try - until the last three rides it has taken twice with the bike firing once, then dieing on the first try. Second try, starts right away. After the oil change it fire right up.
I have a big weekend ride coming up to Oregon. The weather forecast looks good. This baby needs to run.
About 3,000 miles ago I did the SAS/Cannisterectomy and revented the gas tank. I have not done the flapendectomy.
Who out there has some ideas? Here's my list of what I plan to check tonight:
1) Gas in the tank? Duh.
2) Kick stand switch gave up the fight? Bypass switch.
3) Plull a spark plug from under the seat and check it out.
4) Could a fuel pump connection have come loose during the oil change reassembly? The test ride was only about 8 blocks. I had the left tank off from the oil change. This seems doubtful to me.

With all internal combustion engines if they do not run there is a problem with either air, spark, or fuel. The first step in trouble shooting is check those three things. It sounds like you are already doing this, but I have found this usually identifies the problem.
If you recently changed the oil, (and spark plugs?) I would check anything that may have been affected by the oil change process.
This is probably not all that helpful, but it is what I would do. Good Luck!

You may want to double check the power relays, specifically the fuel pump relay, on the left side (as you are sitting) above the tank behind the shroud, mine came loose and caused all kinds of heartache. Apparently they are not alwayssnapped together properly.
Actually, easier way to check, can you hear the fuel pump start up when you turn the key?
