Actually ... a '09 XT-250 ! She has pretty well grown past the 250's horsepower and I've done all there is to do...which is not much really. Pretty tame setup!

Yepper, for a while anyway.

Anyone know how to pull the clutch basket intact or do I have to take it apart....... scarry !!!!

you gots to take it apart..5 or 6 screws, remove the outter plate, then the springs..there will be a big nut in the center..to get that off, they suggest a special tool for holding the basket but I have in the past used a wedge of wood to stuff into the gears to keep the basket from turning..now comes the sad part, you're wasting your time right now as the motor HAS to come out of the frame to split the cases..removing the clutch basket will not reveal anything to look at inside the tranny part..yeah I know, it sux

I believe this is what it looks like behind that clutch basket..imagine all the shafts poke'n thru them bearings

If it is not the end of the shift lever thingy, you are right, case split time. Not sure it is worth that...... May go for another bike in that case or at least another engine. ::: grump :::

tell ya what tho..would be a neat project for you at home durin the winter..plenty of help here and surely none of us would mind the trek out there to assist, you know, kinda like how I did it with the jeep? Why not? Would save you from having to buy another bike or a motor and would be a learning experience for ya..so watcha think? pull the motor, clear a spot on the bench, or build a motor buildin bench and lets do it!

I know another way we could fix this problem. I think there is an extra XR400 enginge laying around we could sell on ebay and I just happen to run across this........
