So you have 4 days before leaving on the ferry in La Paz? Unless you're wanting to focus mainly on dirt, I'd skip Mikes and find good dirt roads in other locations, or spend a few days between Mulege and La Paz along the coast.

- I have 4 days schedualed to get from Arizona to La Paz....or from La Paz to Arizona depending on which way we go... Most of the stuff i've seen at Mike's Skyranch seems fairly challenging on a V-Strom but I figured it may be worth a look. Personally I would rather look south of La Paz with that time but it will be up to the other rider's im with.

You will not regret that decision, I guarantee it! Mike's is great for 2-3 day trips for us SoCal guys but if you only have 4 days to do Baja, I say run down to Los Cabos via the beach road around the East Cape! If you do, you'll remember this thread on ADV and thank me later! And then allow another 2-1/2 days to head back north along the Cortez coast. Too bad you don't have more time.

My bro and I camped on the beach at Cabo Pulmo. If there's anyway at all you can take or find some snorkeling gear, you'll be glad you have it!

I could have more time thats why I was asking. I was just guessing at 4 but am open to suggestions wether or not this is enough. I can easily extend it to say 6 or so. Any thoughts? I figure it will take a day messing around with the ferry...anybody had any experience with this?

* I assumed hotels would be $75.00 - $90.00 per night but it seems I was way wrong. For $20.00 - $30.00 per night I may be hoteling it more often than tenting...if not just tenting it the entire way*

I think my bro and I spent about $75 to be right off the strip in Cabo. I'm ashamed to admit it, but we tried the Cabo Wabo bullshit and after one night of watching girls from the cruise ship get drunk at very unoriginal bars, we were done and got the hell outta there. So no, you won't be paying that unless you want to. There is the whole range of hotels and resorts in Baja. When we were in Los Barriles there was a 5-star resort there that was $350/night and up. Expect to pay $30/night.

There are some excellent books on Baja and I've read every word of all of 'em. Maybe you should try to get one and decide what it is you want to see. I can recommend all day, but your preferences probably differ. I really don't think you can go wrong if you spend alot of your time south of La Paz, or at least south of Mulege'.

In Cabo San Lucas $75 is still way more than you need to spend. Check out Hotel Dos Mares in downtown, and their second hotel Villa Dorada seven blocks norh on Av de la Juventud - you wil be surprised . Actually check out Dorada first and if they are full they will give you a room in Dos Mares for the same price- around $31.

And north of the Mex 1/Mex 19 junction north of town see Hotel Oasis. All these are good places with ac and secure parking, but no water frontage.Just some samples.

Copper Canyon in October

Hey Strom King,

Are you still planning a trip to the Copper Canyon in October 2010?
