Nice! I've ridden the SE down a few times this year to visit my son but now I have some dirt to check out.

Did you ever get messed with down at the airport?

The Parke county loops vary on pavement and gravel. The loop we were on had a good bit of gravel but nothing too bad and nothing you couldn't see coming and avoid if you needed to. With the superduke, it might be worth looking at the map closely and looking for the routes (even with some alt roads) that are confirmable from google maps. Most of the time the bit of ride immediately at the bridge is gravel but you aren't traveling far on it.
Sounds good. Thanks again for the info.
Yeah, I would guess you get some funny looks rolling into the CS department!

I am up for getting some rides in yet this year. I want to take advantage of the prolonged riding season down here. Just moved from Minneapolis and heard they had 2 inches of snow yesterday.

Was hoping to get an afternoon ride in today, but this darn research/school thing keeps getting in the way.

I am going to try to get over to the KTM dealership and see if I can get a testride on an Adventure at least today.

Let me know if you want to catch up for a ride sometime.

I know the feeling. I have been buried in graphical models homework for 2 days. Good luck getting a test-ride at the dealership. They are really nice over there, provided you can find anybody. Last time I went I had to go in through the harley side and snake around through the shop and warehouse to get into the KTM side. Enjoy the ride if you get it!

It is on Kossuth just east of Hwy 25. It is actually part of the HD dealership which seems a bit odd to me, but whatever. HD

I beleive they opened the KTM portion of the dealership fairly recently. The guy that is usually working on the KTM side (Ryan) is a good dude and very helpful. If you call looking for KTM parts make sure you ask for him.

The reason for the KTM + HD thing is a bit confusing. The KTM part used to be in Frankfort but was moved when the owner built a new huge HD dealer down there. poolboy would know more of the details. I just know that the guy that owns all of them is a bit crazy. Both of us are pilots in some form or another so I know a bit about him from that circle.

Still, the KTM dealer here is surprisingly well equipped given that the front door is locked most of the time. If you can get ahold of somebody it is worth going in just to walk around the floor and smell that wonderful austrian air.

DAMN, we still doing lunch today?

I have never been messed with anywhere I rode down there, part of the benefit of being "out in the country". The only time you are visible to the airport is on approach to the gravel pit. At that point you are pretty exposed out on a low plain, but it is only 200-300 yards before you duck into the woods. Once you are in the trees and in the pit you are hidden from everything except for a construction truck coming to dump some waste, or a gravel truck moving things around.

That's another nice thing. At least once a year they would re contour the entire gravel pit. For a while it was covered in little piles and jumps. Then they came through and graded it all flat. Then the rains got to it and made lots of mini-ravines. COnstant change there.

Guess I am about a month too late for you. Bike has been down for maintenance. You still interested in some rides? I should be up and going again in a few days.

Profiles says a KTM 950, possibly it's the Adventure my son says he sees on campus?

I've ridden my SE down periodically to visit him but never see any bikes cruising around. Maybe we can hook up for a ride next time I'm in that neck of the woods.
