F800GS Front wheel damage

I tried to find a thread for damaged front wheels. Less than 200 hundred miles and one little rock, and my rim was bent. Called the dealer and he asked if I had it off road! Of Course I told him. Not covered. I've never had a bent rim before, and I have hit many a rocks and sharp bumps on my other bike (It's why we ride). He did refer me to a specialist shop that would make sure it would not happen again. The wheel I got back is super strong - won't have to worry any more. Take a look (aaargh, file wont upload).

7ga spokes
1.85 x 21 Excel rim (anodized black)
mounted same stock tire

This wheel will not fail.

Next year I am having the rear rim replaced and superlaced.

Let me know it there is a thread this should go to. I want tosee what everyone else is doing.

I hit a 3-4" high conical anthill at 70mph and bent the front rim big time.
I didn't even go near the dealer, as I knew he would call it my fault.
Even if, by some slim chance it was warrantied it would have been replaced with one of the same shitty, soft Behr rims.
So I had a Sun rim (2.15 x 21) laced on.
I haven't hit anything since to test out the new one, but we live in hope.

I just did a 3000 mile trip and while i was riding on pavement I hit something and it gave me a pinch flat and a slightly bent rim. I bought the warranty on the tires and rims and I will have the dealer replace it. Long story short too bad your dealer won't do anything about it but there will be hell to pay if mine denies my claim!!!

So you hit something hard enough to pinch a tube and expect someone else to fix a ding in you rim.

Nothing was defective, you hit something and bent a rim thats more like insurance isnt it.

This is referred to as "outside influence" and no reason it should be covered.

Hit something hard enough and you will bend it.. it may be stronger than the stock wheel, it will bend too if you hit something with enough force. Go to Vendors and ask Woody the wheel guru about superlacing..

OK, I got the business owners permission to post.
Woody's Wheel Works did the work,
the spokes are 7x.175 gauge, torqued to about 70"/lbs. It is an Excel rim, that they anodized black after machining for the spokes/nipples. 500$ after shipping and all. It would have been around 175$ just to straighten the old POS rim and ship back. (I have a 500$ deductible on insurance that they would have scoffed at just like the dealer did)

I won't have to worry any more. After all of the MX I have done, and the KLR650 I put to the single track, this is the best built wheel I have ever invested in.

No, I am not getting any promotion kickback. It is simply the best 500$ wheel I have ever owned - and it deserves to be on my F800GS.

OK- I do appreciate Zach's work.
