Here is how she started about a month ago.

And here she sits as of now. Lot more to do. Steering head bearings, tires, carb rebuild, new choke and throttle cables. Install Enduralast.. some brake parts. So far so good..

Sweet!

[quote=Echo1]1983 R80RT purchased new from El Paso Schwinn BMW. Back then BMW was desperate for dealers and somehow the Schwinn bike store in El Paso Texas became a dealer. I attended the store opening day event in 1983 and fell in love with her. Unfortunately I felt she was way overpriced at $6395. The store owner knew very little about the motorcycle business and wouldn’t even consider negotiating. Every time I went to El Paso I always stopped by the store and she was still there waiting for me to buy her. Finally, on April 27, 1985 I went by the shop on my way home from a business trip and she had a sale sign on her for $4100. I purchased her and soon after the store owner got out of the BMW motorcycle business. She is completely stock except for the Reynolds ride-off stand and a Schneider’s flip-lever throttle lock. She only has 31k original miles. I took this picture of her last weekend on 7/8/2006 on one of my favorite local rides.

Rebuilding one just like it...Well a few little changes.

Two up

We ride two up, and the old girl, the bike, does just fine. Into the Park for icecream after work in the evening.
