Picked up this bike a couple weeks ago, and I'm now a complete airhead fanatic. Such a great bike, and no other bike has made me want to ride as much. Here's to the rest of you airheads.. and hope to meet up with some of you soon.

Is it stock to have the oil cooler mounted in front of engine?

Yep ... The Mystic had the Oil cooler standard .. I believe that 88-on had the oil cooler standard mounted somewhere.

Here's my '74 R90/6. I traded a guy my '04 MG Special Sport for it straight across, as I really liked, but didn't love, the California series bikes and I still had my V11. By the time I crossed the bridge back onto Coronado I knew the whole front end wasn't going to work. So, off it came and after a lot of research and searching, I decided on grafting the entire front end from an '85 K100RS for it's stockish look and beefier components. An R100R hub got turned into a wheel that fit by Woody's, Works Performance handled the front springs and the rear shocks. Cheap, chinese Ebay fairing and bags with a good paint job, and a slash 5 speedo did the rest, along with a slightly used cafe-ish rear saddle I found through one of the BMW clubs. While the front was out I re-did alot of the wiring, added mini-bus fuses instead of the porcelin, and re-built the master cylinder. Plus a crap ton of other little stuff. Now it rides great and I love it. For a BMW, anyway

Congratulations on your nice find! These are getting harder to find. Great all around bike, very easy to maintain and a dream to ride. Folks are always amazed when I tell em it's 17 years old. On the other hand, even though it looks essentially new, they usually assume it's been restored and is 30 to 40 years old...

I've had mine for 3 years and have (regrettably) only been able to log less than 5k. It's now at 9300 miles. One of my first posts is back on #1068 in this thread. Here is a refresher:

Basically the same bike, with unique: seat, front and rear fenders, headlight bracket and instrument panel.

While I am at it, here's my very first airhead (first of 8), a 1970 R75/5 on the right. My buddy Bob is on the left with his 1974(?) R90/6. Notice my great aerodynamic packing! This is in June 1977. We left at the end of school from USF, went due north and up the Alaska Hwy thru the Yukon to Alaska, back down to the Trans-Canada Hwy, across Canada where we split up at International Falls, MN. I continued on to Nova Scotia thru Canada, down to Virginia, up to Detroit, and back across on I-80 to SF. Three months of fun. The pic is taken in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. We got stuck in a tornado, made it to a drive in burger joint, and some very nice girls took us in. Another story...

Funny, I'd be surprised if you are more than 15 miles away from me.

Camped this year at the far end of Wild Woody's...away from the noise and festivities so I could actually sleep at night
