I met that guy in Highland this afternoon. He'd just arrived from a three day ride from Florida, and had 16 days left to make it to California on a 1928 R62...those crazy Cannonballers!
I wished him well

OK.. maybe he said R52. He did say his top speed for today was 57mph...
That's a long ride to CA!

Yes, that is Darryl Richmond's R52. Not exactly an airhead although I guess it has heads cooled by air!
Darryl runs the Vintage BMW Org and that is his prewar BMW that he is running in the Cannonball with.

This was around 8 am south of Baldwin City Ks to pick up a KC area photo tag. 598 miles later I'm in Valentine Neb. Of course I posted a new tag right near the 250 mile mark. :-)

OK it is of course an airhead, but around my circle when someone says an airhead they usually mean a slash5 through the last airheads which would be /8 or /9 if BMW didn't stop with the slashes. Hence if you go to the BMW airhead's list, those are the bikes you will see discussed. Prewar airheads will usually be called just that and you won't see them on airhead forums much. Another cagegory that doesn't exactly follow precise rules is the one my 1958 R50 fall under. It is an airhead that is post-war, but not typically called just an airhead since it is before the slash5. If you want to read about it on a forum you have to look up Slash2. Only, mine is not a /2 techically because the /2 came out as a revision of my bike years later- the R50/2. Now if someone says they have a slash3 what do they mean? I would guess that would be an R51/3 which came out right after the war and before my /2. There are no set rules. Darryl's bike is an airhead. And it is a Beemer instead of a Bimmer, I have been told!

Missed the rain with the use of the mobile. Isn't tech great when it works.

70s and NNW at 30 plus all day. Quite a change from 100 plus day after day.

Central Nebraska is burned up. Much of the corn has been chopped or bailed up as the ears never developed.

These are the Stuhr museum in Grand Is and the Homestead Nat Mon outside Beatrice.

thanks. the bike in front of the yellow van is untouched, but I had help from the red brake lights from a car stage left.... the Blue Moon bike I did have to tweak as it was too dark, and other wise a throw away but I tweak with IPhoto. but I've been getting good results with white balance. cloudy, direct sunlight, and in this case, incandescant light, though I don't know if those were technically incandescant lights. the camera has settings for flourescent, etc. sometimes I'll get cool results when I forget to change, like I'll be shooting cloudy and the sun comes out from behind a cloud and I don't change. that kind of thing. key here being not using auto on white balance.
