Well, the frame brace was comming from the early 70s when they thought it could give a better frame-twisting performance. I had them, so I bolt them on...just a historical thing...and everyone who sees it is asking about this stupid thing
The exhaust is the original one but not the final one. I had to make it street-legal here in Germany, so I had to put the old one with the dented manifold on.

That's so beautiful it hurts. Makes me all the more anxious to finish my toaster! Great job!

Thanks! This thread specifically (and the forum in general) has been a huge source of inspiration and guidance in helping me get her back on the road. Best of luck on finishing.... and when you're done, don't forget the pictures ;)

They're Wixom Rangers. Pain in the ass to refinish, but in the end, worth it.

New to me this summer. Not sure what the fella selling it thought when I showed up and was only 2 years older than the bike... but he seemed less concerned when he saw I was using an 8 year old POS flip phone.

Lots of nice looking bikes on this thread!

WTB: XR650l parts: Tool bag, rear chain guard. Condition used but decent, price fair.

1986 R80 G/S. New to me last summer with 22K on it. Near original, I'm the 2nd owner and I've put on another 4K miles to date. For appearances sake I've tweaked it a bit as you can see, but I've safely stored away the original blue tank and side covers, engine guards, valve covers, side stand, pegs, seat, bag mounts, and exhaust. The original owner added an Ohlins rear shock (YES!), billet upper triple clamp, and mounted rear turn signals on the front (the originals didn't work anymore with the triple clamp). And yes, I know I need new fork boots, that's next on the list!
