1994 R100rt

Here is my recent find. It appeared on IBMWR marketplace. One owner, 5,445 miles and absolutely as new. This was the sellers third airhead. He bought a new 74, kept it ten yeara and rode it 50k miles. Then he traded it for an 84 RT, kept it ten years and rode it about 60k miles. In December of 94 he traded it for a this bike. One year later he had a problem with his eye and lost sight in it after only 5k miles. Rather than sell it or risk riding much he simply kept it in perfect shape and took little short rides to keep it exercised until two weeks ago. They were moving to Georgia from DC and the decision was made to sell the bike. It had only been posted for about 15 minutes when I called him at 6 am and bought it. I was the first caller and feel very fortunate.

One more

I truly believe it would have been more shop worn if it had remained on the dealers showroom floor. There is not one piece of corrosion anywhere. It came with the original sales invoice, three service invoices, all keys and books with service book stamped. The bike came with a really heavy duty BMW 3 amp battery charger and it came with the bike too.

I'll buy you a beer sometime. In fact, I am announcing the AMA Grand National Flat Track event at Billings, Montana on August 2nd. The old RT will be the ride of choice. I've got some business in Vegas on the way. It's going to be a 5,000 mile trip and I can't wait. Want to have that beer?

The PO put 5,000 on it in 14 years and I'm going to do that in two weeks! Weird huh?

Why can't one of these amazing deals fall into my lap

Other than the fact that my garage is already too FULL.

This is in Sequoia National Park, July, 2006. My then 13-year-old daughter and I took a 3-day camping trip on the old R90.

I think I'm going to be heading out to Westfest (leaving quite early to make it a relaxed trip) that day, but maybe I can route through Billings and take you up on that. I'll return the flavor, too. We'll see.

Nice friggen bike, mate.

That's not a garage...that's an arsenal. With those choices you have a bike for every eventuality. Cool. I'm working on a minimalist approach. I've ran through too many bikes for too long. My plan is to have the RT, the /5 toaster and a 250cc dual sport and call it quits for a while. I love airheads so much and then I ride a modern bike and think I need one. Then I miss the airheads and have to have another one of those. New plan-don't ride any modern @#$%^& motorcycles.

Leaving early here too to meet my gf in Vegas and head to Sedona for four or five days before taking her back to Vegas and riding the 1000 miles up to Billings. Are you aware of that hugely successful mean ass hillclimb out there on the weekend before the Grand National?

I wonder if any other ADV riders will be out in the area that week. It would be cool to get together for a group beer. Maybe we should start a thread on that.

Post Script: You wouldn't like me for sure if I told you what he priced it to me for. It can happen to you, it happened to me. Always thought only others could get such buys. Should have bought a power ball ticket that day. I couldn't believe the bike when he rolled it out of the garage. The pictures were bad to say the least and I had no idea what to expect really when I made the trip to DC to get it. I paid him the day I agreed to buy it on the phone and the check had cleared so the bike was mine no matter how good or bad it was.

our bikes

we've got a pair of old airheads, both of which we've owned for several years. I took the photo of the R75/5 toaster a few weeks ago, just before stripping it down to give it a freshen-up. Although it doesn't look too bad in the photos, it is quite tired mechanically and the paintwork is shabby. The R90S has been running for two years now, since I performed a complete nut, bolt & rivet rebuild. It was a basket-case when it originally joined the fleet.

This is my 1976 R75/6 sitting at Corbin's factory in Hollister CA waiting for its new seat, this was its first trip out of town after a frame swap and ft end rebuild and swap as well along with much fixing and cleaning along the way.My first airhead so still figuring things out about it but it ran well for a 500 mile jaunt to Hollister and back to Chico. More work to be done but thats half the fun. Fun bike to ride! The gentleman on the right is ED, Hes getting a bike ready to head to Alaska to celebrate his 77th birthday. We should all be so lucky!
