That's a fine looking bike, Pat! Of the two colors they came in - that's gotta be the best.

Laugh just arrived

Mental GS was kind enough to drive from just outside Toledo down to Baltimore to bring me her '74 R75/6. Sweet ride, in beautiful condition and sounds terrific.

I almost slept in the garage on Saturday (not because of my wife - that came sunday )

For what its worth:
You will have several "obstacles" to overcome...................

.... the /2 tanks have a very narrow "slot", because nothing goes there on the bikes except the frame. The later /5 and on have relays, coils, and then the /6 and /7 had master cylinders as well. So, there is space in the slot in the later tanks. You will have to relocate whatever your bike has there to some other place. THEN you will have to figure out how to mount it: the /2 tanks have a transverse bolt up front that goes through a lip on the tank, and a totally different arrangement to bolt the tank on. It is much more difficult to pull the tanks on the /2's than on the /5+

To say nothing of taking an old tank, which is a hard-to-find unit, and cobbling it so that it works... cringe....! (Full disclosure: I have a /2 and a /6, and parts are so easy and cheap for the later bikes compared to the /2 parts!)

Fair enough - thanks for the info - I like the shape is all. I might just make one out of GRP instead of going all the trouble. I can make it whatever shape I want then.

You might take a look at the various fiberglass parts that this outfit provides: some real good looking fairings and seats, they have a fbg tank but no picture of it....

http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/vintage/bmwboxer.htm

Haven't bought anything of theirs yet, but the website is fun to poke around in! Take a look at Ducati fairings, Rennsport fairings for vintage bikes, etc etc.

Thanks for the tip - ive been to that website before and it looks interesting - I would love to fit a Ducati 750GT replica tank - beautiful shape.

Still thinking about the /2 tank though, call me nuts (and you undoubtedly will!!!) - I have this "idea" (syndrome?) of making the whole machine steel or mainly thereof (no plastic bits - deep down, I really really hate plastic, has no place on a motorcycle!).....

relays and stuff - yes I know, will have to find a new place (I have an idea), as for mounting...hmmm...surely theres a way.

Love the headlights. I get over to Den Bosch quite often.

No, I'll keep hanging around. Still like te GS line and maybe I'll get an airhead GS or G/S later. Or I'll mod the R65. Wider bars, other tires and it's as suitable for terrain as my 1150GS was :)

Besides that, I'm still one of the mods and I'm quite loyal to people I got to know, even if it's only online :)
