Hi Guys!

I just finished building this R-90 from my old bike which put 200,000+ miles on, a couple of doner bikes and a pile of vintage parts that I'd been saving up for a few years.

It has a long list of mods that are mostly hidden under the body work but the frame is raceworthy and it rides and tracks like a dream. There is absolutely no "Rubber Cow" left in this bike. The engine is a fresh rebuild to stock but more horsepower is on the shelf and coming soon, along with race quality brakes.

The same bike today:

Man its an expensive application fee to get into this club.... particularly in Australia. We agreed on an arm & a leg but i bartered a few fingers & toes back for my keeping.

I just picked her up this afternoon. What a buzz to ride.

A second disc has been on my mind. I have always had all my bikes with brakes working at their best. The front disc is new & i assume its going to need bedding in to the pads because its just terrible atm.(i may well just get some new pads for it)

On looks alone I would say she would have been worth the extra fingers, if it had come to that......Wow.

And, there really IS something about classic black...

My R100LT has full Stainstune system and I have to wear ear plugs even on my commute to work. They sure do give off a very loud song.

It will get better. Both of the discs on mine R100LT had been machined when I bought the bike. Several 1k later and they are good. Not as good as modern bikes but ok.

Well, since you asked...

Here are a couple more photos of my Beemer. Eagle feathers, Oilhead Cream paint and hand done pins.

The engine work was completed by Michael Pettis, owner of "Michael's Motorsports", our indipendent BMW shop here in Santa Rosa, CA and he built me the strongest, best running R-90 that either he or I have ever ridden.

Heres the list:

Modified and strengthened frame to racing specs
Big tube Swing arm with cush drive
"S" Fairing with VDO clock and volt neters
Relocated brake light switch
Rebuilt 79 transmission
Lightened fly wheel and new clutch pack, balanced as a unit.
Rebuilt top end with new valves, springs and rod bearings
Pistons and rods were balanced to 1/10th gram
Drilled filter and starter covers
Rebuilt carbs
Omega Ignition (Every Airhead should have one of these units!)
Dual disk brakes and an under-tank master cyl. all rebuilt.
Rebuilt 30/10 rear end with new drive splines and shoes
Mint Lester Wheels with period Metzlers
NOS Tank
Remote fuses
Chrome gas cap
/7 controls (That fracking R-90 up-down turn signal switch almost got me killed more than once!)
Odyssey PC-680 battery
New fork tubes with rebuilt internals
Polished lower triple clamp
Billet top triple clamp
Hi output headlamp
Progressive fork springs and shocks
Brown side stand
Stainless steel brake lines
SS axels
SS push rod tubes
SS rear brake rod
Hand polished stainless fastners
Hoske repro mufflers
All new cables and rubber bits
Lots of hand cleaning, bead blasting and soda blasting
Oilhead “Cream” paint with custom graphics and hand pin striping.

Well, she may not be a /5 but she sure is purdy... Schwarzes mit weiß, oooh yeah!

welcome to the warm hearth of airheadland. Don't worry, you were lucky, there's plenty of guys out there who woulda add a family jewel or two to join the party on that steed.
