It's on the road for some shake down runs...I still need to paint the tank though!

Thanks guys, it wasn't easy converting the lights on the bike, but I love the look.

The G looks so much better than the L model. Nice bike.

You have been around this site for awhile, great looking bike. My work is not yet complete as yet, just found out last weekend I've got engine oil migrating into the secondary drive cavity. Looks like I'm gonna see the inside of the bottom end shortly.

This photo of my daughters' father was taken in 1975 in San Francisco. Period correct in every detail, because it was taken in the period. If I remember, the bike cost about $2000 new. It was a horrible handling machine. Just dreadful. I like the picture well enough to use it as my avitar here, but sadly I have very few (I think this is it) photos of me between' 64 and '85 that show me on a bike.

I remember just staring on those early Z-1's in the magazines. Beautiful machines.

That's a brilliant picture.
My first ride on the back of a bike was a Z1. My sister's boyfriend, I think I was about 10. I'm pretty sure I poohed myself. If I remember right, he was an amateur racer as well. Left a lasting impression for almost 40 years afterwards. I still want one.

And quite mechanically solid, but they were troublesome to ride at speed, not because they were so fast (they were that on a relative basis of course) but because they were not reliable handlers. I never fully sorted mine despite doing the period mods; Konis, steering damper, days spent aligning it, etc. Spaghetti for a swing arm.

Thanks. I'm fond of it and wish I had a few more like it, but alas I wasn't thinking about what it would be like to revisit those days when I became an old man.

It was taken by a professional photographer who was a friend and gave me a nice 8X10 that managed to survive all the depredations of the ensuing 37 years. I never bothered to document any of the stuff I owned including the next bike, a 1975 smoke R90S. I wish I had some pics of that one. Hell, I should have kept it too! Who knew?

My baby that started in boxes, a 1971 Yamaha XS650. This restoration is about 10 years old and I just added a rack for a camp out ride that is coming up! A lot of high school job money went toward this bike as my dad and I restored it.
