Cape York question

Last time i did the cape was in July of 1999 by 4WD and am thinking it is time to have another look by bike this time. When we went up in July there was a serious amount of water in the crossings still, in saying that the previous wet was one of there biggest on record. Was wondering how late you could leave it to head up that way, would beginning of September be too late ya reckon?

mate begining of September is way inside the Cape York travell times. You could go as late as early November, but the heat would probably kill ya. We did the cape mid August to early Sept this year. Heres the link to the ride reports.

having just got back from there, you should probably check the RR for my ride and see if it answers any questions. You can always PM me if you want specific stuff addressed.

Did it in 4WD's in middle of Sept 2007 and everything was very tolerable, including crossing heights. I walked most of them finding the right track for the Cruisers....sweet.

mate, you'll have a blast and if you can go with at least 1 other person, it'll make it that much better.

given it's all tar from cairns - think about leaving from Mossman as it's only a few k's before the dirt starts.

Yeah was thinking that, only reason i had Cairns in mind was because i was thinking of hiring a storage shed for the 3 weeks for the car and trailer, thought it might be a more secure place to leave it rather then at a caravan park or something

The parks seem to cater for leaving the car and trailer. The couple of places I checked with had no problem with leaving them and the place I finally stayed at and left the jeep and trailer only charged a minimal fee.
