Personally I'd be stunned if they did that. Seems as if they are billing it as a sporty coupe ala miata with a real roof for the u.s. I doubt they would want to ruin the balance with the weight of a diesel.

I just stopped by the BMW dealer. Diesel is conspicuously absent from the brochure and the sales guy said they don't have em scheduled to be made.

...and available in an automatic only.

I LOVE station wagons. A vastly more useful form factor than most SUVs. Here's my last one, a Mazda6 with every option:

I am happy with my 95 Volvo Sportwagon, except for the deferred maintenance I inherited, oh and that it needs a head job...sigh. Foe the moment I'll do the rear bushing replacement, ignore the lack of A/C and keep adding oil...

OTOH, does anyone have long distance experience with a Ford Freestyle? Built by Volvo with Ford badges. I don't know whether to consider the Freestyle or look long and hard for a Passat TDI wagon in the very limited production range. Experience counts.

Check out www.tdiclub.com classifieds for a Passat wagon as they pop up there rarely. Depending where you are you can have one of th entrusted mechanics on their list do an engine conversion. I have over 222222 miles on mine and still running strong. Also an older model passant wagon should be easier to find and it is much easier to modify for performance!

I can't recall if it's the Freestyle or the Taurus X that has the CVT style trans, but you'll want to avoid it like a rabid pit pull. I started to consider one of those myself last year and spoke to a Ford tech at a dealer who was working on one. Transmissions are junk, not serviceable, and the replacement costs as much as the car is worth. Again, not sure which models have it, but do your research.

We bought a Jeep Patriot, which is sorta like a wagon.

Anyone have any experience with VW Jetta wagons. I'm thinking of a new one with the TDI. Currently I have an Imprezza which they call a "wagon" but I'm looking for something with more room in the back for my dog & gear. I really want a Passat wagon but can't get one.

Yes. We've got an 03 TDI wagon with 5 spd. Good car and minimal maintenance (10k oil change, 100k timing belt). Not great for 10 hour rides, but great for everything else. I'd like to find a TDI Passat wagon, but rare as they come.

FWI was told, NO diesel in the 3 Series.

...but ya gotta remember, this was a sales guy talking, not BMWNA.

He had ONE 335d on the lot. Manual? No, can't get a manual with the diesel.

We just bought a '12 TDI wagon this past Friday. We left the dealership and gave it it's break in drive on the way to the in laws over the weekend in upstate NY.

Awesome car. Highway mileage was rated at 42, but we averaged 46, and the engine still only has 600 miles on it. It's my wife's car, but I'm pretty smitten with it myself.
