True. My dad's from Newburgh (Orange County for those of you into crappy "reality" motorcycle shows") and can't stand New Yorkers.

I am presently located in Monroe and do ride that area from time-to-time, but rarely do so during the work week. I keep my motorcycle in a self-storage building when not in use. I'm living in an apartment while trying to sell my house back in Maryland and don't want my 'baby' sitting out in the weather. I live so close to work -- within 3 miles -- that it doesn't make much since to go to the trouble of getting the bike from the storage building just to ride 6 miles round trip.

If you or your son see me out on a weekend, please introduce yourself. My bike is easy to identify as my license tag has my first name (Numa) on it. Look forward to meeting both of you at Hawthorne's.

Well, I was going to attend the next meetup, but since you all seem to be so down on New Yorkers, maybe I'll just stay home and sulk.

A true New Yorker would not let that stop him/her. Besides, I grew up in the 'Peoples Republic of Maryland'.

Don't let that stop you... heck I spent most of my "impressionable" years in PA. Still drink PBR if it is cheap.

And if you weren't from NY we would still find something to pick on you about. All in good fun!

Yeah come on to Hawthorne's, we all *kinda* get along. Just don't make fun of our accents, the Dukes of Hazzard, or order wine.

So if I get a salad and wine I have to sit at another table?

Sumter National Forest

Spent some quality time on the V-Strom yesterday down in Sumter National Forest in SC.

Brazelman's Bridge

The Enoree River

Dogwalla Road looks inviting

Dogwalla Road, the portion that's not so inviting

Lunch at Gene's in Union, SC

All-in-all, a nice day of low altitude riding covering just under 300 miles.

Can anyone recommend a local shop to do suspension work?
I got back from the Broxton Bridge ride to find this mess:

I don't know if I will get anything done beyond just fixing the bad seal right now, but I have never really messed with fork internals before, so I don't feel comfortable doing it myself.

Or, if there's someone who has experience with forks and would want to help out, I would be willing to try it at home. Compensation would be in the form of home-brew.

I'm in Indian Trail in case that matters.

I don't know much on that side of Charlotte.

Todd Palmer at Palmer Motorsports in Denver NC is good with that kind of stuff. He is a small business that works on all kinds of bikes. Depending on what day of the week you catch him may depend on his demeanor but his work has always been good for me.

If you have a shop manual seals aren't too bad. Having the correct seal tool for installing makes life a lot easier but not always needed.

I have only done street bike forks, but i can't imagine it being that much different. If you want to tackle it together, you know where i live.

Jeff at Carolina Adventure Cycles -- located in Matthews/Stallings -- does suspension work. I haven't had them do any suspension work for me yet, but they've replaced steering head bearings, chains, sprockets, tires and a number of other things for me on my V-Strom and have done a great job. That's where I'm taking my bike for all service these days. They have shop rate of $60 per hour which is lower than any other place I looked at in the area. They can order the parts for you or install parts you bring with you. They are located right on Rt. 74 and can be reached at 704-882-0223. Jeff and Dean are the owners and they are good guys who both love to ride.

Mongle - Thanks for the info. Denver is probably too far for me to go for this, but I'll keep that in mind if/when I decide to do a more thorough upgrade of my suspension.

Numa - Thanks! CAC is nearby and I will give them a try at some point for sure.

Andy - Thanks for offering! Yeah, I think there is little real difference between the street and dirt forks as far as maintenance goes. I'll send a PM so we can see if we can work out a time to take it on.

I appreciate the responses, guys!

Numa, my son and I rode around the Lockhart area a few weeks ago but need to explore south of Union one of these days. My father lives on SC 97 about 8 miles west of Chester. We've ridden the east side of the Broad river in the Woods Ferry area and Leeds.
Nice quiet country down that way.

I enjoyed the ride Sunday. Stopped for 20 plus minutes at Brazelman's Bridge and only had one car come past. Didn't see any cars at all on Dogwalla Road (also didn't see any cats on Dogwalla) and the same was true on several other roads.
