Funny how free beer brings out the folks we haven't seen in a while.

Numa: I like that pic - it sort of memorializes putting the words "Numa" and "Butt" together, which most of us have had to only imagine up until now.

Congrats on the job - where will you be slaving away the best years of your life?
Will do. I'll print it off before I leave campus.

Working at TAP Publishing (AKA Trade-A-Plane if anyone is a pilot) as HR Director and Inside Counsel. It's in Crossville TN but I'll be living in Knoxville an hour and change from Deal's Gap.

That was a fun get together! And yes, thank you Joe and Katoom for buying drinks for everyone.

Koolranch: Thanks for bringing out your sweet RD. Listening to you warm it up and pull out of the lot was a highlight of the evening.

Wish I coulda made it, but had a soccer game to cheer for and then trying to get my buddies KLR running again. Anyone ever seen a KLR timing chain that was stretched a little? I am trying to figure out why I can't get the exhaust and intake cams exactly in time with each other...

Most timing chains stretch. That is why cam chain tensioners are self adjusting. BUT, I have never seen one stretch on a jap bike enough to mess with cam timing. You have to be a little more specific on the "time with each other". Intake and exhaust events are on different strokes of the engine cycle so I am not following.

The camshafts only rotate once for every two rotations of the crankshaft so if you are trying to find compression stroke for adjusting valves watch the intake valves: watch them open then shut then when the piston is at TDC you will be on compression stroke for adjusting.

Example of 4 stroke engine:
Intake stroke- Piston going down/ Intake open exhaust closed
Compression stroke- Piston going up/ intake and exhaust closed
Power stroke- Piston going down/ intake and exhaust closed
Exhaust stroke- Piston going up Intake closed exhaust open

Thanks Numa it has been fun bringing life back into the old bike. I adjusted the air screws today and it starts a lot easier.

Street Bike Ride - Sunday, March 30th

The forecast calls for 2+ inches of rain tomorrow. Looks like Sunday will be the day to ride -- 62 degrees and only a 10% chance of rain.

Larry (Flasher), Loren (Opa) and I are planning to meet at the Bojangle's at the Bessemer City exit (Exit 14) off of I85 and depart there at 9:00 AM for a street bike ride. Since it's raining today and again tomorrow, we'll stay on pavement for Sunday's ride. We plan to head out west along the SC/NC border towards the mountains and Brevard.

Anybody who's interested is welcome. Kickstands up at 9:00 AM.

Numa

Hey guys, are there any good tent camping areas around Linville?
Herrserj and I are mapping out a two day ride from around Boone down the Parkway to 276 back through Spartanburg and home, SE of Charlotte.

Never been there, but they still have a web site: http://www.highcountrymotorcyclecamp.com/

This shows that most of the Parkway between Boone/Asheville is closed. Might want to figure alternate route.
