Finally got the BMW back from the dealer yesterday and snuck out early this morning to get a few miles in.
My first experience with the dealership was good, they originally said IAC valve and recommended changing vent hoses at same time as preventative (known to collapse). Turned out the hoses took care of the issue so didn't need the IAC valve so saved some cash.
Looking forward to getting to know it better.

Scott Davis: I read in today's Wall Street Journal that you are retiring from your position as CEO of UPS effective September 1, 2014. Congratulations! I hope that you enjoy your retirement.

Ok. Count me in too. I'll be on the wr and hauling it to a nearby starting point.

I would love to go but I don't have the bike for it. Although the claimed dry weight of a KLR is only 40lbs lighter than my Adventure I really don't have the appropriate tires.

Lake Wateree

Parallaxbill (KLR650), herrserj (DR650) and I (KLR650) had a nice ride down in SC today. Parallaxbill led us on a great route that circumnavigated Lake Wateree. We got rained on a little on the return trip, but most of the day was good weather for riding.

I took some pictures, but my laptop is on loan to my wife who is still Maryland. Maybe Parallaxbill will post a couple of his pictures from today.

Bill - Thank you for leading the ride. I really enjoyed it!

Two pretty black 2013 KLRs and the lonely gray DR 650 from a relatively rare view of Lake Wateree from the high ground of Buck Hill Rd.

I should've done a panoramic shot from up there on the hill.

Lake Wateree Epilogue

Look carefully in the "high ground of Buck Hill Rd" photo and you will notice the paper tag on my new KLR. Someplace between that photo shoot and my garage, the KLR decided to shuck that temporary tag. Guess I'm through riding until my metal tags come in or one of you head down to Wateree and find my temporary tag.

Koolranch: KTMs are absolutely welcome. This was a last minute decision to ride.

Bring it on over, we can get some knobs on that thing easy.

That's real nice of you. :) What bike are you going on? I'm really tempted but I have no idea what the terrain will be like.

Trying my best to find some kind of dual sport, I didn't buy the Tiger to push my limits. With the knobby on the front it does fine on the dirt roads and street, but I ride pretty moderately. Too heavy for rough stuff and to pick up. If I show up on it I'll chicken out early and find some nice FS roads to play on. If I find something nearer 300 pounds I'll try just about anything.

Perfect, wolf Creek in July and hopefully my new tank will be here! New LEDs came last week, wanting to light up the front like a locomotive...

Tragic , Matt Anderson was killed last week when a driver turned left right in front of him in Charlotte... 31 years old, married 1 child and wife is due in February. The family has a education donation instead of sending flowers for anyone that is interested...

Very sorry to hear this about any rider. Feel free to post any links or info. Anybody know if this guy was on ADV?

Most of the wrecks I hear about involve a car turning left. So just a reminder while you're riding - assume that any car can take an unexpected left at any time, and assume that they'll wait to do it until you're within the line of fire. And I think turn signals were outlawed in Charlotte several years ago.

Then of course you have Flasher, who we almost lost a while ago when he stopped and stepped OFF of his bike.
