Ok,Here's the deal.

I stumbled across a 1978 Honda CB400A that has been made into a handicap rig. It's been setting outside for at least ten years.

The motor seems to be free and that's the good news. It needs about everything else. Tires, chain etc etc etc.

Here's the deal. I drug it home tonight and I plan on slicking her up and then giving her away to someone who will use and take care of it. I figure there is someone out there that might be interested. Right? I hope so anyway.

So if anyone is interested in helping out I would be glad for the assistance. I have plenty of other irons in the fire, so I'm not setting a completion date.

I can only guarantee you won't be getting anything out of this but my thanks and maybe your name on the side of the tub.

As for who's going to end up with it. Well I'm open for suggestions and will consider all of them, but in the end I'm going to give it to whomever I think will get the most out of it. Please consider this when deciding if you want to help as I don't want any piss'n and moan'n afterwards.

Also I would be happy to provide lodging for most anyone who would like to come by on a weekend to throw a wrench at this thing, as long as it fits into my families schedule.

That's the deal. Flame away if you think I'm out of line.

I'll take detailed pictures of it after I get it hosed off.

I would like to add that who ever gets it will have to agree to pass it on for free when they no longer want it.

I met my best friend on our first day of nursery school when we were four years old. We used ride plastic "big wheels" down the steep hill in front of the church. We had lawn mower motor powered minibikes by the time we were nine. We were the only two kids in high school riding Triumphs when everyone else had dorky mopeds.

We rode the crap out of those bikes in college We were room mates- and I still have mine. We rode our bikes from NJ to CA and got into the bay area motorcycle scene in a big way- neither of us had cars until our mid 30s. Then about eight years ago he meets a girl and they got engaged. They decided to ride around the world for a few years then settle in Costa Rica so they got matching KLRs and farkled away. Before they left, my buddy crashed the KLR and is paraplegic now. He ran his own plumbing business and of course can't work now so all $ goes to health care.

Is that the kind of guy you are looking for to ride this contraption? We're out here in Berkeley, so no can do on the restoration work.

You are welcome anytime Lars.

Yes PetefromB that is the kind person I'm looking for,but of course logistics will figure in to the final decision.

I have a couple of wrench thingies and a screw driver so I should be ok with the resto.

Wow. America is a pretty great place, when you get down to it.

Don't know where you live, don't know anyone who could use this, and I can't help wrench as I've got a 17 month old and a 1 month old at home, but I am subscribed and if you ever need help hunting down a part, I'll watch this space.

I'd still have to ask him and see if he is up to riding it. He may be sworn off of motorcycles if for no other reason than he just could not sustain another crash. Transporting it out here isn't that big of a deal. There is a company called Eagle One Express which is just two guys and a truck. They go anywhere and as long as you are not in a hurry- they don't charge much. They specialize in moving motorcycles, but they picked up a standing wheelchair for him in LA and delivered it door to door in Berkeley for under $200- which is less than gas would cost to go get it.

If Pete's friend doesn't work out... maybe you could get in touch with one of the Veteran's groups...

We haven't had a good old fund raiser around here for a long time...
This sounds like a great cause! Happy to help if I can.

I already know of several people on the board who might be candidates and I'm sure that there are people in my area who might be interested also.
My daughter suggested that maybe a injured soldier might be a good fit. We'll see. It's a long ways off.

I don't think you will have much trouble finding the right guy. The problem will be deciding which right guy.
