Mungo/Pooncarie/Top Hut - SA/Vic/NSW Border Run '09 from SA
Did I mention it was HOT! Now The Report: Knowing we were heading for a "stinker" of a hot weekend in outback south-west NSW with 40C + expected everyday , we decided to get the mandatory "Bakery stop" out the way early meeting TonyRDR (DR650), bwvtom (Tiger), Sundowner (Super Tenere), Raff (DRZ400) & a nervous 1WD (KTM990) (after last years major off) at the Birdwood cafe/bakery.![]() It was a quick blast east of Palmer to the Punthari turnoff. 1WD was showing slight signs of apprehension in the background when we turned onto the first of mainly all dirt roads planned to the Mouth of the Mullaroo on the Murray River, between Renmark & Mildura. ![]() After flat & flowing well formed mallee roads we descended into Lenger Flora Santuary ![]() ![]() and over Black Hill for a short strip of down hill sand to get the heart pumping. ![]() ![]() Good to see someone else loves a TDM ![]() Turning into the dense & narrowing undergrowth of the eerie "Wolf Creek" nick named track waiting for the others to arrive ........ ![]() ![]() I looked over my shoulder & could feel the full vibes of this area sink in, as a sense of being watched overwhelmed me ![]() ![]() hightailing it out of the area with my imagination of a silent murder/burial being on the cards, a front end loader suddenly appeared hot on my heels, making it even more real ....................... ![]() After that experience, it was uneventfull through Bakara Well to the Loxton Pizza Bar and their fabulous Steak Sandwiches which everyone confirmed met expectations. It was during this gastronomic delight, Preditor strolled across the road to inform us that the "Wagon of Wisdom" & the "Trailer of Treachery" were safe & well & our "food" was being well looked after. HumanOne, DogsBody, Drago & Spaino were refueling around the corner & it was decided refreshments were in order & the local Working Mans' Club waterhole seemed appropriate It wasn't long before KevS69, his son James & Aussieotto also arrived & we "had a convoy" to Lindsay Island, stopping only to "refuel" at Renmark, where Guzzimike arrived direct from WA & joined our group. It was here that we found out how 1WD saw the world through KTM eyes ![]() ![]() The Trailer of Treachery looking its best ![]() Entering the "Principality of Lindsay Island" called for a toast ![]() Some didn't even wait for the dust to settle at the Mouth of the Mullaroo ![]() The Global Financial Crisis had obviously reached further than one had thought, with the Mayoral chair some what downsized this year ![]() After another fantastic night of frivolity, Dogsbody led us on a tour of the island & its interesting past ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Arriving at the Pooncarie campsite by the Darling River we found oursleves surrounded by three wheeled monsters & something akin to a "still" ![]() Another fantastic night at the Pooncarie hotel & then onto Top Hutt Station the next day ![]() for a continuation of the "Mullaroo Council" meeting being called to order ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Of course Chef Dogsbody excelled with his catering of his famous "C#*t chops?". Mind you I think it is all becoming a bit of a racket .....eer ![]() Wow! ........ I think I'm in love ![]() overseen by the much relieved 1WD after successfuly achieving his first Top Hut adventure , he was on top of the world ........ or at least the truck ![]() Arising next morning after "the Meeting" lasting most of the night , much to the annoyance of some of the nearby rip van winkles in the sleeping den of antiquities ![]() although not effecting everyone ........ er not by much anyway! ![]() ![]() With temperature expected again in the 40C's we headed due south as the crow flies for the mighty cool Murray River![]() stopping occasionally to cool off along the Old Mail Route back to Renmark ![]() ![]() To be greeted again by The Couger & his ladened River Rover. Although this support vehicle has its limitations, it was much appreciated, thanks Couger ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That night we were blessed with one hell of an electrical storm passing directly overhead with strong gusting dusty winds & sweet F A else.![]() ![]() ![]() After another dip in the Murray River the next morning we said farewell to the Rover ![]() to hit Bakara Well once more, with MikeF finally getting a handle on his KLR & a big smile on his face ![]() ![]() ![]() Another great trip with great mates. cya again soon

Great to see some more shots from last weekend
![]() Cementing the shed floor this weekend doesn't seem nearly as much fun as we had in Pooncarie and Top Hut

Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Not the noise in the morning though! Was that you lot? Did you need the temperature to get down to 30 deg before you got warmed up!? It's alright now, I've got some sleep since then.
