Vintage trials...which of these two?
Ok, I know opinions are like A__________ everybody has one so I guess I ask for it.....
I have a 75 Yamaha TY175 and a TLR200 which would be a better one to hold onto for trying some twinshock vintage trails next season.....I know the obv....one is a 2stroke and 1 a 4.....but looking for stuff like which ones is going to being easier with out as much drama....because I'm going to have to let one go. Thanks

Personally I'd go with the ty. Way lighter and better out of the box than a reflex. The reflex can be made to be a decent trials machine but it takes time and money. If you go with the reflex strip it down to the bare essentials get an after market tank and shocks , alloy rims, decent bars, 11 tooth c/s sprocket. That will get you in the ball park.

I would agree that the TY would definitely be the better one. There's a reason they called it a "cheater" bike

Is the TLR200 a TLR200 (alloy rims, bash plate etc) or a Reflex? A Reflex won't cut the mustard.
The TLR200 is better handling...better suspension etc,it's the next generation of Japanese trials bikes - but the TY175 is by far the sweeter ride. |

It the street legel reflex....we got it because the wife is short and she wanted a D.S. type bike but she is not a big fan of the kickstart
......about the TY I bought in a semi restored state......better set of rear shocks (so I was told, still have stockers) but the weird this is the forks are moved up (like 1.5 in) above the top triple clamp....was this the hot set up or just some goon move by the prev. owner.

The TLR is not technically "vintage" depending on what events you are riding, and their eligabilities. If it's strickly "twinshock" rules you should be OK, but the Honda is a newer design...a potential factor.
They are close enough in capability that it will come down to YOU...so all else equal, personal preference matters most! |

trials Inc has twinshock class, they have us run the Novice line,Nothing risky, very fun events. All the people I've met are freakin' great, always willing to help and advise.I attended my first at Stoney Lonesome a few months ago and became immeadiately hooked on trials. The events are mostly easy driving distance from indy.

Try a kawasaki super sherpa for the wife. Not a trials bike but it has the magic button and a low seat height. I don't think anyone make a trials oriented bike with e start.

Trials Inc. is a twinshock, aircooled, drumbrake class, they don't mind my Fantic 240,which has longer travel rear suspension than Ahrma legal bikes, hell,we're glad to have more than one twinshocker at any event. Personally,I'm gonna try to attend all but the most distant events next year,I'd love to have more bikes to compete against,so bring on that TY175! (Johnson 357,I'll send you a P.M.)

The forks are stock in the raised postion on the TY
If you can swing it keep both. That's what I'm going to do I'm looking for a decent reflex (in SoCal) To add to my TY175. Squish
