1984 r65

I went to look at a 1984 r65 today. In the pics in the ad It looked pristine It's been out in the rain for a season and has lost some of it's shine. The thing I found puzzling is that it has a kicker. None of the pics of r65's I've seen on beemer web sites have them but...pics of the r45's do .Could this be a r45 dressed up as a 65? Can anyone tell me if the r65 came with a kickstart?
Thanks
Bill

I think that may have been an option offered in Europe.
I met a guy who shipped his R65LS over from Europe and he had a kick-start lever.

might be that the guy traded out the gearbox for some reason. Swapping the gearbox on an airhead only takes a few hours and they're not that expensive either. Post up a pic. I'm sure somebody on here can tell you what's what from a picture.

Thanks for the replies there are a couple of "signs' that make me leery here.I want a bike that can qualify for collector plates so I'd like it as stock as possible. The speedo/odo has been "replaced" so the mileage is ????? The kicker is ??? and the fact it's been parked in the rain for the season are warnings. The battery was dead and it wouldn't start even with the kicker which was surprisingly ineffective. Its amazing how sellers feel that because its an older Beemer, even though its a derelict it's worth top dollar.

Kickstarts were an option. Don't worry about that.

Take into account the negatives and figure the price accordingly. If the owner doesn't go for it, make an offer. He may get back to you after being turned down enough times.

The German paint does really well and should polish up just fine. But the frame paint in those years was junk. The frame is probably rusty? They tended to rust even when taken care of.

So, what's he asking for it?

What about the brakes? Dual or single front disc?

I have a kickstart on my 84 R65LS. It works if the bike is in tune (carbs synched, valves, ignition/electrical sorted, etc). But as Wirespokes said, this is largely an irrelevant appendage.

Used r65

After some more thought I emailed the owner and said "no thanks". The bike has been neglected. It's too bad I was hoping for better.I'm going to a local dealer who has some nice oldies in his shop.I'd like to see some bikes that have been looked after. The search continues.
