Agree with above. Also the "backyard paint job" can hide a lot of flaws, like cracked frame, bondo etc unless you have someone who knows body work etc check it out. Plus it's an 885cc engine, which is fine, but the 955 [yr2000+] is more sought after.

Good condition 885's go for 3000 to 3500 all kitted out.

It was one of the most dependable bikes I ever had.

Two dinged wheels, the tank, plastics, luggage, and some handlebar bits totalled out my Tiger. That tank alone was something crazy like $1,500-$2000.

EXACTLY..."Could have been." Unless you have the proper devices and training in bodywork to measure who's to say if anything is bent? You may get lucky and get one with just cosmetic damage but being unlucky in this case may get you dead. Feel free to roll the dice as your risk tolerance allows. Seems dumb to me. Save for another year and just find a sweet deal on a undamaged machine on CL. Isn't that what this thread is all about anyway?

Read the last line: "The only other issue is the computer which does not work all the time."....

What does that mean?

Don't do it.

These things are notorious for over heating. Which is one of the reason Honda only made them for a year or two if my memory serves me correctly. The Pilot is a much better machine.

Can't go wrong with a KLR. Gobs of aftermarket parts, John Deere tractor power, simple to work on. I might have a line on one, cheap, that needs unspecified "engine work". Still working the owner, who is not sure what he has, what it needs, or whether or not he wants to sell it. Or let it keep gathering dust.
