Last weekend when I rode the KLR down to the Braley Pond campout the suspension was sagging so much that the low beam was pointing towards the stars - After I while I realized that it wasn't that my headlights needed adjustment. I needed a suspension upgrade. The KLR is not designed for my fat ass and all my shit. So I pulled the plug this week on suspension mods for the KLR - Cogent Dynamics rear shock, new springs and the Cogent Dynamics Drop in Damper Cartridge.

Rick says I'll get the parts next week, so this morning I got the KLR ready:

I had them set it up for a rider of my bulk. The next my son goes for a ride on the KLR I suspect that he'll be bouncing around a bit. He weighs considerably less than me.

I reached my wife's spending limit for the time being.

So I removed the swingarm to lube the bearings and found this:

And indeed, the bearings are not very well lubricated. The shaft through which the knuckle in the above picture goes is full of rusty water. Those weep holesl are not in the lowest point so water can just pool in there. great design feature.

So I'm in the process of getting them all properly lubed up. I'm gonna need more grease!

Is that a chunk out of your casing by the engine mount?

hopefully that is an unnecessary part of the case. Also the first thing I noticed, and the reason why I took the picture. The weep holes thing seems dumb to me .

And yes the fork brace is on my list of things to do when we have some more money.

Looks like that is the engine mount.

It's OK, they all do that.

Yea it is an engine mount,Tom, did you have to loosen that mount to get the swingarm off?(makes it a whole lot easier to get it off and on.)

Could the holes be drilled for Grease fittings that were never installed?
