No need to take it to the airport. The Twelve O'Clock Boys offer curbside pickup.

Just drop it by my house, I could use a project to tinker on.

I hear your cries all the way over here in Germany my friend. Cold weather is not our friend when it comes time to awaken the sleeping tiger. I am planning to go lithium with a significantly higher cca rating than stock pos battery. . I think cold cranking amps is more important than amp hours. Stock is 200 or 220, litiums are more like 400cca. Twice the cca for twice the money. It would be worth it if she starts up everytime.

This aggression will not stand man.

I get pissed enough to put it in the street with a steal me sign on it every time it does this shit.

I've thought a hundert times... I'm gonna trade that fucker for a 07 dakar and be done with it... but then I remember how much fun it is to ride
I'm trying a 2 battery system next.. 2 shorai 14ah each should kill that problem dead... stock batt 10ah. If it decides to be a prissy bitch I'll have 28ah to throw at it.

I think you are mostly correct about ah v cca////
I have 2 shorai 14ah 230cca batteries on the way. That will be 28ah and close to 500cca....
I fucking dare you not to start.

seems that this is a 1050 tiger issue only. I havn't heard of ST1050s doing it.

I do love the thing... I'll eventually install the magic bullet.

My 955i ate up batteries. that last one before trade in was bone dry..
Never tried to figure it out, Traded it for the 800xc.

Seems like the computer takes a shit, the dash/fuel level resets and it acts like the battery has taken a shit. But the battery is fine Usually just a few minutes of rest and all is hunkey. Not acceptable when you are already late for work. like this morning........
Thanks for your input though. This one has been frustrating. It's a great bike but it ain't worth a shit if you can't trust it to start EVERY time.
I went through 2 batteries in 6 months when my 1050ST was doing exactly the same thing. I thought for sure it was a battery issue but I decided to replace the regulator / rectifier and the stator with new ones from Regulatorrectifier.com and since then things have been perfect. I was even able to charge up the 2nd battery that had died and have been using it with no problems.

I know its harder swap than a battery but it is worth a shot. I went with the unit from Regulatorrectifier.com because the superior MOSFET technology and the 50A rating.

Looks like snow on Sunday so it will be a good day to tear a motorcycle apart :)

IMO Your R/R had taken a shit and was probably pumping ungodly voltage into the battery. Stator was probably ok. in your case.
Normally, as i understand it, Triumph stator takes a shit, which in turn hoses the R/R which in turn hoses the battery(due to under charging), if not dealt with right away. This seems like it involves almost all the tripples(yay).

Thanks again. See above. My 1050 is not eating batteries. The stator R/R is functioning fine (somethiing like 14V at all rpms). I have the replacements in house for those, and they are going in this winter.
The problem I'm talking about is a starting issue that happens when the charging system, including the battery, is healthy. This gem of a problem seems to be specific to 1050 Tigers.
When TomC's Tiger wouldn't start one day we all thought it was the Tiger starting issue... but no this time it was the lovely triumph stator R/R issue.... They have the same symptoms except for the one detail. In one, the charging system are functioning properly, and in the other the CS has taken a shit.

I bought my stator and R/R from http://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/aftermarket-stators on a recommendation by Mitta T.

Battery choices for the Tiger 1050 from Bikebandit:

So many choices I had to make a table:

And a chart:

The battery I am replacing had 230 cold cranking amps when I bought it - it was not enough. I believe the stock battery had 200 CCA. Also not enough.

The Western Power Sports Lithium is the best bang for the buck.
The Antigravity batteries have tons of CCAs. The $275 one is probably overkill. I think I'm going to go with the $209 Antigravity that has 360 CCAs.

It sounds like the battery is not the problem. A 200 cca battery should be more than enough to start the bike. Sounds to me like there is a power problem between the battery and the starter.
