Eek Yuba River Gold Country

On Saturday May 20th Sierra Nevada Adventures will be exploring the Yuba River Canyon, exploring the wild and scenic Yuba River and the historic Northern Mines. This ride will Feature a great combination of back roads, historic dirt canyon roads and historic gold rush sites, and you will have the opportunity to visit the historic Bridgeport Covered Bridge which was an important link in a freight-hauling route that stretched from the San Francisco Bay to the Northern Mines and beyond to Virginia City. One of my favorite parts of this ride is a dirt wagon route up to the historic Purdon Crossing, then to Edwards Crossing, and finally and the largest hydraulic mining site in California known as Malakoff Diggins.

One of the more interesting things about this ride is traveling to Malakoff diggins where Hydraulic mining was first invented, and also one of the first towns to be affected by the ban of hydraulic mining. If you haven't known what a hot topic this was back in those days, Go ahead and check out the movie Pale Rider, with Clint Eastwood. That will give you a strong idea of how much damage hydraulic mining did to the farms in the adjacent valleys below. Add to the fact that complete mountains were washed away completely and you can see this was not such a good thing.

I really appreciate the expansiveness that this ride covers. From the twisty tarmac down to the Bridgeport Covered Bridge, to the desolate forest where these great wagon roads once carved their way to rough and tough mining towns. If ride conditions permit, we might even make our way into the old cemetery of Red Dog. A very fascinating place indeed.

If you like, you can read more about this famous northern gold country ride from this link

Or feel free to see some past photo's of this ride from this link

This will be a single Single-Day Dual Sport Adventure and is perfect for medium to large dual sport adventure bikes. Off-road terrain is rated "mild to moderate" with lots of adventure. Ride distance 200+ miles round trip (75+ miles dirt roads) One gas stop (125 mile range required)
Bring water & picnic lunch as we will be dining outdoors on this ride, but we will give riders a chance to to pick something up at the local deli before heading to our lunch destination.

Ride will be on Saturday May 30th 2015

Great Yuba River tour and group ride Mark, nice job!

A big round of applause for Mark and his crew yesterday on a successful big bike Yuba River / Diggins scenic tour. It was a great mix of bikes and riders on big ADV bikes, 990/1190 KTMs, KLR650s, BMW 800s, 100GSs, XT1200 Super Teneres, and more. Hey, even the big Tenere's did quite well keeping up I might add. :)

Two different riders had flats 15 minutes apart and Mark was a great hands leader taking charge helping customers to fix their flats, had the tools, working hard to get it done so everyone could get back on the road. All part of the adventure.

Thanks again Mark, you do a great job and go above and beyond the call of duty on your tour rides.

2015 Husqvarna FE 501S, 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere ES
2014 KTM 690 Enduro R (sold), 2008 Beta 450RS (sold)
