Put 700 miles on the bike this weekend. Texas Hill Country (Twisted Sisters). Fun times with SOG, TxJames & Boulder Ed. Lots of turns and tach-sweeping. No dirt as yet. Waiting on pegs, risers & BDCW skid plate. All miles run on Dyna setting. BMW low seat on low setting. Windshield at various settings - ended up at max height. I'm 5'10" with 32" inseam. Tall tinted windshield ordered although standard shield performed well enough.

Basic impression:

The bike is a significant advancement/refinement of the GSA concept. Frame/suspension/tires/brakes all work to achieve much greater sport bike feel - lighter & more nimble. Perfect manners in high-speed sweepers and tight technical turns. Clutch and throttle greatly improved. Especially the throttle. No more lurching from closed position. Engine is quieter and smoother with noticeable, if not remarkable, increase in power. Akro silencer sounds awesome according to my fellow riders. Deep & throaty. Cruise control, ESA & Nav5 all easy and intuitive. CC is not strongly responsive, however. I like the low seat. And the GS tank bag. Heated grips more effective than my '12 GSA.

Will get it out in the dirt soon. If its dirt manners are at least as good as my '12 then I'd say BMW read the DS market well and nailed it with the new GSA.

It's a damn good looking machine. Clearly a step forward.

In other news, we had a ball on the Sisters. Didn't have to pass anybody. We did pass them. We just didn't have to. ;) What a great afternoon twisty ride.

Ed was either horrified with me. Or happy. I couldn't tell. :)

Ask JD

Lets just say JD told me this morning that I was cheerily talking away in my sleep last night. When I timidly asked "what about?", he said I was jabbering about the great riding we'd had :-)

Ed seemed happy enough when recounting the day's ride. But then he was drinking his favorite beer. Maybe that was it.

Hold the mods on the DRZ..

Just change the oil a lot and air filter. My buddy has a DRZ with 53K miles on it on the absolutely stock engine! I rode it around the White Rim trail in Utah a year ago and she purred...

Yeppers, now the owner of KTM 525exc...long drive up there...bike was pretty well represented. Lots of water in the ditches there. Did not realize Oklahoma has stations with NO ethanol! Should have brought gas cans! Played with the bike yesterday. The Rekluse is going to take some getting use to. Was sitting there idling and not holding the clutch, forgot that it was in gear,, blipped the throttle and almost hit my garage!
