Visit TXJames - Tuesday Aug 16th

Okay, I spoke with Mr2mch. We're meeting at 6:30ish at Uncle Dan's BBQ (see map below) for dinner and then we'll go the hospital from there. If we get a big group, it might be better to have some people visit James before dinner and others visit him after so we can spread that sunshine around.

We're not locked in to Uncle Dan's. If we want to have a big discussion about where we should eat, I'm ok with that. Basically its about visiting TXJames and seeing you (yall). The food, beer, and getting that crap from Ghost is all just icing on the cake.

Ghost, are you coming or where can I meet you to get those crash guards and windscreen from you?

Post up here if you're planning on being there so we have some idea of headcount.

Got rained on for the last 50 miles home today. Cloud cover all the way from Junction to home.

It was 71 degrees.

That is all.

I meant it in the nicest possible way.

Ok, I'll fix it for everybody.

Oh, and the glory days we'll be talking about will be this fall. I sincerely hope Fall 2011 is better for me than last fall.

Don't get spoiled. Summer isn't over yet. This was your first summer in TX, right? Man, you got "the mother of all summers" as your first one. Next years will be better.

At 3PM it was 92 degrees!! .....& I DID NOT RIDE!!!......but I did get finished installing the intiminators in my forks....& a little more bad painting. NOW I'm going to go out for a bit this evening & see how the fork mods work.

Well, Glenda got a new bike so we took advantage of a cool, cloudy day (no rain) and went riding around Milano. Seemed like the last few weeks' weather were a distant memory.

here in comal etc counties we're so accustomed to the absence of moisture and the unending 100+ temps... when it gets "down" to a mere 100, I turn down my a/c... and I'm not kidding. I do a bit of work and exercise regimen outdoors most days [and the gym I go to in san marcos is HOT... ], I can feel "cool" with my home AC set at 79. at 78 i reach for the covers at night...

A lot of people seem shocked that I keep my A/C at 80-85. Heck, when I was in upstate NY I only heated to 65-78 normally.

At in our office, which is over cooled for the equipment we have, there is a certain room that gets down to 64. I keep a jacket to wear in the office.

Yeehaw! only hit 97 in Austin today. The new streak starts tomorrow though.

We had cloud cover and I got out a little bit, but the heat snuck up on me. Came home and drank water for a while and it was still a couple of hours before it wanted back out.

AFTER THE RIDE...

There's a difference. Partially because of the lighter 5wt oil vs 10wt stock, but the ride is more controlled & sharp bumps...although still felt, don't have a crashing feeling thru the bars.I think the intiminators were a good mod. I may check on different shims for em to adjust the plushness a little more toward a DS bike suspension setup. So what I've got in the front forks is....

Triumph Trophy progressive wound springs (slightly larger dia wire than stock DL650 for a higher rate & longer length too) $40 from a TWT member

Spacer shortened to match total length. (initial preload 15mm)

Ricor Intiminators (early style w/shim stack .078) later versions have .060 $150 from a fellow ADVer

Silkolene 5wt fork oil instead of 10wt stock $5 Mitchell's Cycle Sports

Any other of ya'll DL650 Strom folks still running stock front suspension....You need to check into some mods. BIG DIFF

oh...& it didn't rain again this evening like they were suggesting.

Sadly all I wanted to do all day was ride but I didn't really get to enjoy the wonderful weather we had. Oh well.

I did take the beast out in the mud for the first time today. That was an experience.... Oh and I bought a nifty little cordless Ryobi 1/2" impact wrench and some nifty attachments for it. With the proper bit on it punches through tile and masonry real well. It's probably overkill for anything you'd need a drill for.

Anyway, I'm about 98% sure I can make the meet on Tuesday. The wife has a doc appointment that morning in Dallas but I should be back with plenty of time to hot foot it towards Waco.
