This will make you laugh and cringe. A re-post of an email I received from a non-rider.

...Just not at 90mph.....unless it's paved

The big difference between the adv and the R is the front wheel. The R is in the video and has the 21" front wheel...the one in my pic is the same as a GS/A. I'm sure it is just a spacer setup. The 1190 just went up on KTM's website, and the 990's are still there for this year. Only two things excite me about the 1190: 150HP and 6 gallon gas tank. But with 150 HP, it must be about the same as a 4 gallon tank, at least for people like me .

I didn't like the look of those cases. Maybe they're beefier than they look. They look fragile to me.

Is the tank split like some of their current big bikes? 6 gallons is maybe going to be a 240 mile range. If you're good. Nobody gets a 150 hp bike to be good. Could be a problem in some places, but you're going to get there quick.

Yep, lots of little things. The wet clutch and cruise really caught my eye. The way they describe the riding modes also seems to imply that ABS settings can now be changed on the fly instead of when stopped.
Oh. And I just remembered one thing that scares me big time... the "specially adapted" tyres. As in specially adapted to be more expensive and harder to find than the already rare setup. WTF BMW?!

But perhaps my concerns are unfounded. I haven't spent any time looking for DS tires in 120/70 R19 and 170/60 R17. Anyone know if these are common?

I don't like the panniers either. They look like they open from the side. I do like the 6 gallon tank and it looks like it is one tank now. I don't see the fuel cap on the side of the tank like the 950 and 990's. That would make it a lot easier the manage, I think anyway. I with they would have stayed with the dual exhaust, I always liked the sound of the KTM twin's. Maybe there is going to be a aftermarket system that will let you go back to duals. The R is going to be the one I would look at, with the 21" front tire. The LED front headlight surround is awesome looking too ! ! !

Seems like I remember a Harley V Rod usin a 120/70 19...Hardley (oops) a tire design to put on that bike!
The rear 170/60 17 is a size used by BMW (& Triumph I think) on their Sport Touring bikes...Again....not quite the tire type for it.

TXjames. I have been noticing those new tires sizes on the dual sport tire manufacturers websites. Now we know why.

On the KTM sight, they claim that the new 1190 motor has a totally new head design with lighter piston for less moving mass, higher compression and much improved fuel economy. Only time will tell about the mpg. I also read that the spoked wheels are now tubeless from the factory, that's a major plus ! ! ! It also come with a WP front steering stabalizer, stock.
