No riding for me this weekend. However, it's not for not. She's finally in rehab from Colorado abuse and a couple upgrades. Now to contact my Lithuanian black market connection for my fourth windshield frame...

Made it back from Death Valley in one piece. One flat tire on the rear heading home. Had a good time got a chance to meet the owners of Black Dog Cycle works - good people. A lot of great roads paved and unpaved. Got to see Titus Canyon, Tea Kettle Junction, the Racetrack, Scotty's Castle Ubehebe Crater and Lippincott Pass.

Can't wait to get out and a do some more exploring. Other than the $6.28 a gallon for gas in the park had a ball.

Dragon tales

The one rainy day of our Eastern tour...I proceeded to this place near the Dragon to get a (percieved) worn out rear tire swapped for a good one. The Beemer bunch was just cavorting around the countryside in a rental car in the rain. Everyone enjoyed the day in their own way.

While I was getting the tire swapped on the Strom....I met & talked to this guy for a bit. He was one of the mechanics at the shop & in between other work on paying customers bikes...He was upgrading his "Big Wheel" downhill racer. It seems that a bunch o local crazies started a recurring downhill race on a section of the Dragon.....AT NIGHT....on the original plastic Big Wheel pedal powered 3 wheelers that small kids live on. It has evolved into a much more ...intense..event by progressing to the less well known Big Wheel Sr model made with steel. This one was reversed with the 2 front & 1 rear wheels & a kneeling position for the ...?rider. Also note all the KC lights so ya can see going downhill at about 60mph....IN THE FLIPPIN DARK. The lights being run by a good sized battery pack (road hugging weight)
It IS a downhill gravity race....

He was upgrading the push lawnmower style plastic wheels to some more "less flexible??" solid steel disc wheels with pneumatic tires & proper bearings instead of bushings. .........Yeah...I'd ride that at 60.....???H !!u ?H
A VEEEEERRRRYYY interesting dude though...Creative to the max!!

Soon I had my other donated rear tire on & was headed back to Robbinsville & the dryness of the motel. Like I said....Everyone had an enjoyable day....even in the rain.

Here's a link to a video of one of the downhill events... with stock configuration Big Wheels....not nearly as fast...
