All the body parts are in my truck and will be delivered to the painter in the morning!

I was going to bite the bullet and get a custom Wilburs shock to match the XR600 forks but after doing some research I found that a shock from an 83 CR250 is the correct lenght that I need and has compression and rebound adjustments. I will have to rebuild this shock with the correct spring and valving but I'll still come out about $400 less than the Wilburs.

Hey Jeff,

Excellent! I hope this works out. What is the eye to eye length of this unit?

Just a heads up, the XR250R shock I'm running is fitted with a 10.5kg / mm spring; & 175psi Nitro charge pressure. I'm about 85kg & only needed about 13mm preload on the spring to dial in the static & loaded sag. This may / may not suit your requirement, though it might be a good starting point for spring rates.

It's right at 16" eye to eye. I test mounted it up last night and it fits perfectly. Even the hose is at the right angles.

So if the late '80s remote reservoir XR600R shock works on the CRF230F (learned that on TT), and CR250 shock works on XR600 ....

What year XR do you have and what year CR250 donated the CR shock?

The XR forks are from a 95 and the CR shock is from a 83. The 83 CR250 shock is longer than the XR600 shock.

Well, my google-fu is on it's game today.

The delta between XR600 and CR250 appears to be about 1"-1.25". It'd be good if you could confirm that.

Enjoying following along on your build, how about some more eye candy!?!

You got me thinking about doing the same thing. Something above my XRL that I
would be more comfortable on the highway linking passes in CO, And not cringe if I drop or crash
