NE California/NW Nevada - favorite roads?

I want to make a nice loop of NorCal and Southern Oregon over Memorial day. I am based in San Francisco and want to start by heading to NE California for day one. I'd like my wandering to get me over to Crater Lake if possible but am otherwise flexible. The second night needs to get me to Brookings, OR to see my mama. The last day will have me riding down the Lost Coast. I'll be camping the whole time.

Any advice on good roads in the NE would be much appreciated. The more miles each day, the better. I'll be on a DL650 with street tires. Since I am alone I'd rather not ride dirt.

Thank you all in advance.

NE ca.

If it were me I would catch 89 north out of Truckee all the way to Chester ,through Lassen and on to Shasta north to 199 in Grants Pass over to the coast at Crescent city, and a short hop up to Brookings. If the roads are free from snow and open. Especially Lassen. Have a good ride!

Thinks guys. I was thinking more of small local roads so I should have been clearer. I have some time to wonder and quite a bit of endurance in the saddle so diversions are A-OK.

I used to live on 199 outside of grants pass, it's a pretty nice road, especially at the western end.

Hobbes your route looks pretty damn fun. I was up in Quincy in March. 70 heading back to Oroville is a fast blast!

Don't forget Oroville Quincy Rd. OH YEA! Curves posted for 30 that you take at 60, smooth tarmac, no traffic.
If you come through my area, I'll join you for awhile.

I would ride hwy 49 through downieville to hwy 89 then north on 89. Shit loads of camp sites to pick from and beautiful country.

I have ridden that, back in March with my guru. I will send you a message and let you know when I head that way. I think I will leave Friday night to get closer to the twisties. :)

If your route takes you to Lassen/Shasta, you might want to consider 36 or 299 west from I5, and or The Ft. Jones/Edna, Happy Camp/to 199 routes to turn north through Happy Camp and into OR that way.....

Apparently there's a hot springs resort in Cedarville. If you go there, please tell us how it is. kthx.

Road-wise, I've been all along 395 and 299 and 36, which are nice enough but not especially noteworthy (east of I-5 anyway). Burney Falls is a nice place to stop if it's a hot day, because there are lots of trees.

In Oregon, you can't go wrong with a ride up 205 to Frenchglen and then up Steens Mountain. (That last bit is dirt though.)

ooh, I camped at Alvord last year. You need to stop by Field's Station and get a burger. Be there by 4 or you're not getting anything!!!!

Cedarville was adorable when I rode through en route to Alvord and I wished at the time that I'd had a moment to stop in at the resort. The people who run the little general store there are darling as well. You can take Nevada 8A out of Cedarville which is a gravel highway that spits you onto 140 not far from the Denio junction. It was really pretty out there and I saw wild horses.

Thanks for your tips, everyone, I really appreciate them.
