We are trucking the bikes down. The organizers of the ride say that adventure bikes are not recommended. We will see about which options when. The duelies are know to have some challenging routes. Yor 690 ought to do fine.

John and I are leaving on Friday afternoon about 2pm... we will be trucking down.

we will both be on big adventure bikes so we will take the easy route.

I have done 90% of this ride when I did the la to vegas ride last month..

Your 690 will be fine..

If you can get yourself down there your welcome to ride with us..

I'd like to plan a CA Valley/Carrizo plane trip for next month. I've ridden through the area, but never really explored it. Does anyone have any experience down there? One major obstical is going to be gas. I was thinking of trucking my bike Down with gas for everone. Of course you would need to give me a filled gas container prior to departure.

Cheers!

Mud

I'd like to do a weekend ride around the bay area this weekend to take advantage of the recent rain. Not only will there be mud there will be no dust. Trouble is I don't know that many good dirt trails around here except offroad vehicle parks and they don't seem like the best place for ADV bikes, and a bit overpopulated for my liking.

Any ideas? Anyone interested?

Only riding across it on my way down to Ojai (then on to Baja). Perhaps there's more to be explored but overall I wasn't so impressed that I'd want to head down for a specific ride. Perhaps others can chime in with their own, hopefully different, opinions?

From their site:
January 18, 2010 - The Upper Lake Ranger District has received over 2 inches of rain and the OHV trail systems are closed. The period of closure will remain in effect until there is 48 hours of NO measurable precipitation.

I'm guessing 2 days with no rain is unlikely this week.

There's still a gazillion miles of dirt roads in MNF that aren't part of the OHV trail system and therefore aren't subject to that closure. Also I'm sure there won't be any dust on them this weekend.

I am thinking the bay area will be a wet soggy mess this weekend.. I love that on my Honda but on my 990 wet soggy mess is not much fun..

I think you would have a great time riding with us this weekend..

That actually sounds like fun. Maybe I'll find some time to head up there. . .
Anyway, expect snow in the higher areas up there, and expect the stream crossings to be extra hairy.

I'd like to go, but 8hrs alone on the 690 to get there, and another 8 back is what I'm not so keen on...

I think I need to buy a truck/trailer.
