I did Henessy no problem. Noob chick on a KTM 950. Fun ride. Lots of stuff to explore if you are the exploring type.

C, Big Nasty lives at the bottom of the hill. He also happens to be my younger brother and can outride me (As much as I hate to admit it).

8A is pretty much a superhighway that hasn't been paved yet. It is beautiful out there, with a lot more interesting roads coming off of 8A. If you come in from the west you can take a right on Stevens Camp Road and ride through High Rock Canyon. The Sheldon NWR is a fantastically special place and it is usually deserted. There is a new pipeline going in, though (Montana to Oregon) and one of the main camps for the workers is in Vya. The welders all come in via buses from Winnemucca everyday. There was an insane amount of work truck traffic out there last time I was there in May, and they're all doing about 80mph and taking up the whole road. You can see their dust for miles, but still...be careful if you go out there! I've spent a good bit of time on the refuge if you have any more questions

Thanks for the heads up. Your gorgeous picture sure makes it seem worthwhile. I think I will give it a try.

After doing a bit of research, Henness sounds like it's right up my alley. Unfortunately I can't do it this weekend, but I'm down to do it mid September.
Also, I'm gonna change my track nobbies for some Scorpion A/Ts. Those should be fine for Henness, right?

Sounds like a great place to check out. If you can make it next weekend I'm in.

Carnegie tomorrow, anyone?

Yes it's late notice, yes it's a week day... Offer still stands. I'm a novice, no truck/trailer, I ride out from Pleasanton. I normally put in anywhere from 1.5 to 3hrs and head home. Looking to gain some experience.
Anyway, post a response before 9AM tomorrow.
Thanks.

Qwik, thank for the reply!
I didn't get your brother's pm until now nor any updates on this thread...
My fault for not checking manually until now.

One more missed ride! Raahh

One to the next... I guess...

When are you converting your 950 into a "K"URAL?

Danhool,
it can be done on street tires but it will be slow it is very loose. I would not like to do it on less than a 50/50 tire but I run the ac10 tires. there was more street than I had thought. I liked the road down to downieville (410) and I liked from 89 to Verda Nevada (about 36miles). we fould some OHV out there. look around there are lots of stuff off on the sides of the road. B

Some maps have FS Road 07 labelled as Henness Pass Rd from Jackson Meadow Resevoir to Hwy 89 and that section is paved. You can easily avoid the pavement by staying on south side of FS Rd 07. Here is what I usually do for that section.

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Fo...2,3,4,5,6&z=14

I agree, lots of good side roads for further exploration as you get further east near Verdi.

Hi Guys,
I am riding to northern ca on a highly modified 650 dakar and my brother is riding a new GSA. We would like to hit some fast dirt roads north of santa rosa and towards the west. Any recommendations..?
