I know that Bert works on Sunday so 2 groups might be in order.

Jill and I can make either but we may choose to go motocamping also.. we have not been this year.

Luckett you up for this
Fo shizzle.

Let's meet at Ocean Beach across from the Beach Chalet. http://g.co/maps/m99yv

Does a 9:30 meet time in SF give you south bay peeps enough time to get up here?

If there is any one coming from north of the bridge, we can pick you up at the Tam Junction starbucks.

I'm thinking Panoramic, down to Stinson, back up and over Bolinas/Fairfax, Marshall Petaluma.

Road Report,

120 across Tioga Pass is open. The road is clean--no ice or junk on the road all the way!

The side roads I checked, e.g., Cherry Lake, Virginia Lakes, Smith Station, and a few others, were all clean too. Well, a bit of road sand left here and there, but not much. Main thing is, no ice!

Super good ride too as there is almost no traffic. The Tioga Pass (East) entrance station wasn't manned yesterday or today, so no fee (in case you don't have an annual pass).

All the lakes are frozen...Tenaya even had people ice skating out there!

Cold over on the east side (it was 18 in Bridgeport this morning). But nice up on top (48 at Tioga Pass at Noon).

An exceptionally mild Winter and excellent chance to ride the passes right now.

If you want to get over the Sierras in ***January*** (first time I can remember 120 open in January), go before next week. I see a storm forecast for next Tuesday. Note: 108 and 4 are listed as Open too.

I can't do it on Monday, but I usually have Wednesdays off. If not this week, keep it in mind for the future.

I think I'll do a one-day ride to Tioga, maybe down to Lee Vining, on Saturday. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

No ice on the roads, just none at all right now. Well, maybe a bit at night, if the road was wet during the day, but daytime, easy. I was up there last weekend...

Tioga & Sonora

Today, I rode up over Tioga, out to Bodie and back over Sonora. A few icy bits on 108 by Dardanelles, but all easy to spot and easy to avoid. Just under 600 miles, I left at 7:00 and got home at 7:20. Perhaps because of the football game, or just because people aren't out and about in the Sierra when there's neither skiing nor fishing (every body of water is frozen solid) but there was NO traffic except in YNP. I rode from Lee Vining up 395, out to Bodie, and then up 395 and over 108 and encountered maybe 5 vehicles going my way between Lee Vining and Twain Harte, and all either pulled over or there were safe & legal passing opportunities within minutes. That's well over 100 miles. It was actually a little weird how deserted the roads were.

If you're thinking about it, don't procrastinate ... some weather may be coming in next weekend.

Totally great up there. As noted, no ice. Check how clean it is up at Olmsted Point looking over towards Lake Tenaya!

That's the section of 120 that usually opens last...dangerous spot to clear it and the crews always have big trouble there. Note no snow or ice anywhere near the road.

Meantime, out on Lake Tenaya, people were ice skating!

Beautiful up there right now. Amazing that it's the Ides of January and we can still ride these roads....
