Something came up and I wasn't able to camp this weekend, but I did get out for a day at HH. I stopped by the airstream and said hi to a few folks. Wow... you had quite a crowd! That's great. It looked like you were having a good time.

I hadn't been able to get out on the dirt bike for close to two months, nor for any joy on the street bikes, either, so I would have had fun just going up and down Rancho Road... LOL. Come to think of it... I didn't do Rancho Road. It's a good one to blow out the carbon.

Really wanted to get out to HH over the weekend. Spend some time on the bike and meet up with some new riders.
Even cleaned the air filter and checked the bike over.
Friday morning events changed the plans for the whole weekend.
Oh well. Maybe next time.

Hey esblow,

Always plenty of room for everybody!
Hollister Hills is a really easy meet-and-camp, in that you can just decide to go, or not, whenever, because there's lots of room ... for example, we'll be at Bartlett Hot Springs on 5/24 and 5/25, but that's a small private campground that fills up ... we could only get a room in their B&B ...

Anyway, we do this stuff every year ... my buddies were doing the Sheetiron for a lot of years, having a ton of fun, before I figgured out I could simply buy a DR350 and join them ...

Hi Renaud,
Bummer about the bike ... looks like you got it fixed and had a nice ride anyway ... where was the dirt photo in your California Riding thread?

Hey woodsxr,
I'm always happy to get my air filter cleaned and the bike checked over ... never seem motivated to do that important preventative maintenance stuff without an impending ride ...

Hi M N B,
Sorry I missed you, I wanted to get at least one photo of BAARCers out riding ... ha.

We had maybe 12 streetbike guys show up, too, and there were plenty of extra dirtbikes for them to borrow if they wanted to ride dirt ... we had two firepits going the whole weekend, and Mike played guitar for us and also made A.J.'s cake ...

Yes, I rode Rancho Road, Hi Road, Harmony Gate and Lowerfield ... sounds like you had fun after not being able to ride for two months ...?

OK, cool, thanks everybody for thinking of us, and maybe we'll have a chance to sit around the campfire later this year or next year ... Stonyford on 5/17!

Everyone is welcome at MotoGP Sundays and Thursday nights here in San Francisco at the San Francisco Motorcycle Club at 18th Street and Folsom ... I think we have 8 hours of 2013 Eurosport Dakar coverage that I'll try to show sometime soon, too ...

see you around the campfire,

LiL Clear Creek: I apologize for the buffeting noise in advance. Gotta work on the mic position. Something about the way the KTM stirred wind hits the helmet.

You need to use a threadlocker.

Laugh Funduro and Sheetiron ...

I'll be up at the Deer Valley group campsite on Wednesday night and Thursday night for the Funduro (which is this weekend, up near Lake Pillsbury), and then riding over to camp with the Oakland Motorcycle Club with the Sheetiron 300 Dual Sport Ride ... camping in the Rodeo Grounds in Stonyford on Friday and Saturday ...

Here's a map of the way I like to get to Lake Pillsbury from Lower Haight ... Knoxville, Reiff, Walker Ridge, Twin Valley, French Ridge ... will probably be on the M-10 on Friday heading east to Stonyford ...

Pic of the view from Sheetiron Mountain looking towards the Snow Mountain Wilderness, I guess ...

From what I've been reading, there isn't likely to be any issue with snow this year ... have seen pics of people on top of Mt. Sanhedrin and Mt. Hull ... water crossings should be mellow, too ...

Thanks to the OMC for all their hard work putting on the Sheetiron ... 500 riders this year! Friday night is a lot of fun in Stonyford ...

The Funduro is great fun, too, if you didn't get an entry into the Sheetiron. Group of Moto Melee type-folks (vintage bike people) mostly from San Francisco ...

The Funduro/Deer Valley Group campout is an easy, free, show-up-or-don't campfire event ... The Sheetiron is a bit more involved, since they have a rider limit ... they do 'em every year, if this year does not work ...

Sitting around the campfire in Stonyford on Friday night ...

Becky, Super Suz and Larryboy ...

View of that part of the world from Walker Ridge Road ...

M-3, above Lake Pillsbury ...

Lake Pillsbury from Mt. Hull ...

Thanks to the Oakland Motorcycle Club for another wonderful Sheetiron 300!

Cary and I will be riding down and around Benton Hot Springs this Memorial Day Weekend ...

Wave if you see us!

see you around the campfire,
-- SFMCjohn
