Hey y0y02369,

I've been enjoying your posts on Bay Area Rides ... KLR exploring--with maps!--in the Bay Area ... what's not to love?

We rode Stonyford yesterday.

Catfish ...

Hey Catfish,

Santa Rosa Creek Road!
Now I have some motivation to show up around the campfire to collect my quiz prize, ha ...

Buck Island was cool; I'd never been there before ...

Here's my maps:

Buck Island to Anchor Bay ...

Morgan Valley, Reiff Road, Davis Creek Reservoir, Rayhouse Road, Buck Island ...

Fish Rock Road ... dirt road between Anchor Bay and Rt 128, seven miles east of Boonville ...

So, I left Lower Haight at 11 a.m. and moseyed over to try and find Buck Island ... it turned out to be pretty cool, because it gets you to the Cache Creek in a rugged, remote area between Hwys 20 & 16, so there is no paved road along one side, as there usually seems to be on a big river with lots of water ... and I've heard that Buck Island sees much less use now that they have limited the causeway at Rt 16 to one-ton and put up barricades ...

The ridge to the west of Rayhouse Road, that leads down to Buck Island (looking east in pic) ...

Looking down on Rayhouse Road and the notch that Cache Creek and Rt 16 go through before Williams ...

Buck Island ...

Camping on the river Friday night ... lots of water!

On Saturday I headed off to Boonville via Jenner and Fish Rock Road ...

The Russian River meets the Pacific ...

5 mph hairpin on Fish Rock Road ...

Then on to Boonville ... met up with guys at Anderson Valley Brewery ...

Camping supplies ...

We camped out at the Boonville Fairground ... $10, walk to everything, showers, easy-peasy ...

Dinner at Table 128 at the Boonville Hotel ...

Sitting around the campfire ...

Rode back to town on Sunday to catch the MotoGP races ...

We had some BAARCers show up!

Next MotoGP round is the Dutch Grand Prix, traditionally held on Saturday ... not sure if we'll show it on Sunday at 4pm or Saturday, the day of the race ... we'll see, I guess ...

There's a few more pics, here:

see you around the campfire,

You guys are right up my alley, ride, camp and good times. I live a bit east of the Bay Area but I will keep looking to hook up with you guys for a ride. Thanks to all for posting up your rides, I have ridden alot of those areas at one time in my life and nearly forgot about them, well not quite, but they do get my mind wandering. Hope to hook up with you guys for a ride soon. If you head out to the foothills let me know I do know some areas for good dual sporting. I am located in Oakdale and up for street or off road riding.

So I am thinking about leaving somewhere in San Jose getting coffee or something. Eating some place in Half Moon Bay, then head to Alice's for coffee or whatever. and then heading home to Fremont. Any takers??

Here's what it would look like...
When are you planning to do this?

a little shout out to bay area KTM friends - i need a set of ktm adventure wheels, preferably beat to shit, and cheap. as long as they can hold air to roll the bike onto a flatbed, they're good for me. anyone have any bent, cupped, taco'd rims i can buy off of them?

long story short, i was cut off by some asshole on 880S in oakland, ended up dropping the bike and sliding on my ass for a hundred feet or so. i'm fine, the bike is scratched up on one side... but the insurance company wants to salvage out the bike - and i don't want to let my woody's wheels go to the salvage yard, they'd never know what they had.

or - if anyone wants a good condition project bike, but with a salvage title let me know now before i let the insurance company take it away. it's about $2500 in superficial parts away from being back in top shape.

i'm also newly in the market for a 990S, or 990R if anyone is selling!

PM me if you're interested in the bike or have an extra set of wheels.

It hurts just to look at that. What a waste of a great bike..

I wish I could help you out but all I got is a set of Woody's :)

If it's just $2500, why not fix it up and keep riding it? Looks like you have some nice bling and what not already.

i've been thinking about it, and i really don't want to deal with the salvage title... and not being able to have full coverage on it. my current insurance company, which i'm pretty happy with, has told me that they will flat out refuse to insure it all if it's a salvage title. i commute on it 1-2 days / week, and don't want to commute without full coverage, exactly for the reason that it got damaged this time.

if i was just riding it off-road, or could afford keeping it as a second bike, then i would... it's just not in the cards right now. to keep it, it would cost $3500 to buy it back from the insurance company, and another $2500 to fix it up... and then have to deal with re-registering it with the dmv then finding new insurance.

which is why i threw it out here... if someone else wants to deal with the hassle and repairing, and wants an awesome bike before it shows up on the auction block, then i'd happily transfer the bike to someone who is looking for just that. hypothetically someone could buy it from me and part it out and make some money off of the whole thing, i just don't have the time.

on the subject of the wheels - just looking for a back wheel now.

[edit] OH! and a stock seat. bruised & beaten is fine, it'll need to have a seat on it, and it'd be nice to either keep the renazco, or have it go to someone deserving.

Oh yeah. I would take all the bling that's still good off if you can. Like the TJD guard, slave cover and engine cover...
