Bartlett Springs / 303

- That was flippen fun!

Our first trip out exploring the Mendocino NF area.. I can't believe it's taken us this long to find this route.. TONS of side trails to beat yourself up on.. (note video)

CA-20 to Nice, CA

Right on Bartlett Springs Rd (dirt pretty much starts here)

Run Bartlett Spings toward Co Rd 303/Bartlett Springs Rd (more dirt)

Turn right on Brim Rd (Some gravel)

Right onto Bear Valley Rd - toward CA-20 E (sketchy loose gravel)

48 Miles on dirt - 2.5 hrs

Ouch.... (small vid)

(On a side note - Christmas on crutches SUCKS!)

Still a bit cold in the shadows.

lame water crossings

At but dusty in the valley

Ouch for sure. Hope you heal up soon.

Was the ice at the higher elevation on Bartlett or can you tell me approximately where? I have some friends heading up there Sunday.

Thanks for all the directions on the Mendocino NF ride, have to do that one soon with the weather the way it is. It's so close, but always a excuse not to head north.
No more excuses.............. next week? (with the new springs & shock)

Hi Cabrito,

My motorcycle buddies were at the Penny Pines OHV above Clear Lake yesterday and sent this photo of the ice and snow:

I'd guess Penny is about the same elevation as much of the high parts of Bartlett ...?

@ cuonawv: nice map, pics and vid, thanks for posting!

see you around the campfire,

Hi, I need some help with road closure info?
I' m trying to find out if FH7 Mendocino Pass is still open?
I called FS and they couldn't help, said call the county it's their road.
I called the number they (FS) gave me, and the nice lady said she doesn't know, but it could be scary!

So any first hand knowledge, or who I can contact?
I'm hoping to go before this summer weather ends.
Thanks

Did you call the FS station in stonyford or the district office? I'm surprised the stonyford station wouldn't know, but I guess they don't have much field staff this time of year. Someone in Covelo might know, if there's anyone at the black butte store they would know, or maybe the covelo FS or gas station. I would guess it is passable with as little precip as we've had, though it's almost always closed this time of year.
